Cros with a lot of excuses for losing that one. Could've just settled for 'we were beaten by a better team on the day'..carrying on like they played players ten years older.

Given recent discussions this paper is interesting, title slightly misleading:

Youth International Experience Is a Limited Predictor of Senior Success in Football: The Relationship Between U17, U19, and U21 Experience and Senior Elite Participation Across Nations and Playing Positions". authored by Herrebrøden and Bjørndal and published in Frontiers in Sports and Active Living in 2022.

they found that success at u17s was a slightly negative predictor (but not statistically significant)
Success at u19 a modestly good predictor and success at u21 youth tournaments a strong predictor

u20 success would be decent predictor then
Depends on the tournament. Specifically the U20's if you make the U20 World Cup well then the success indicator will be higher from that experience as the U20 WC is a place where players who do well can be rewarded with moves overseas and creates the domino effect. Similar to the Olympics, the U20 World Cup is one of the best youth experiences you can have.

U17's is too early to tell for most players. You'll have star players like Irankunda or Tatu, who you know will do well in the future but a lot of U17's won't do much and a lot of players in that same age-group that don't feature as an U17 will do well and rise above the others.

Lol our U20's would beat them.

Jing Reec has another better shot. It was a weaker chance but better shot

he then sets up hammond who blasts just wide. Pretty lively

That was a bit of a dull half

we had around half the posession, but they did nothing with their posession, we created all the chances but most half chances against a deep block. We did have a clear cut one though which reec missed

uae were successful wasting a lot of time. Pretty weird to time waste in a friendly, but good experience for our boys

we concede our first real chance but it's just over

valadon dribbles through their whole defence but inexplicably doesnt shoot

game stopped for about 5 minutes. Pantazopolis gets hit in the jaw with a players hip. He is down for a while, the ref tries to get the aussies to hurry up

as he gingerly gets up, one of the uae players says something which seems to upset him and he runs at the player pointing and yelling. The ref has a yellow card out but I don't even know who's gotten one and how many

the reffing in general has been poor, but oh well it's a friendly

Vidmar again struggling against a deep block - only 2 clear chances

For the more tactically literate posters than myself, am I right thinking a low block would be one of the harder set ups to play against?

It’s pretty much the hardest thing to score from in football.

No space in behind and either you have to be intricate to break down that defence in those tight spaces or rely on long shoots or set pieces if your general play isn’t working on the day.

And if you get chances you have to score and based on Grazorblade’s report of the game we had the chances but if you don’t score then this can happen especially against middle eastern teams who like to frustrate opposition.

Last 15 minute
Whats up with the cornor kick ?
Why they did short pass and ended up going backwards? Such a waste.

I hate seeing that.
