As i expected, Croatia's Under 21s side.

i only recognized Luka Vuskovic (Tottenham's Loanee) & Zvonarek. A lot of regular players missing, and new faces.

"There were a lot of substitutions in the second half and in this difficult weather we had a lot of problems considering that we could only make six substitutions, and some players had problems with cramps and barely performed. But it was a good test with a team that is two years older than our generation.
We saw how much better the Australians looked today in that physical sense, especially in the last 10 minutes because they had difficult conditions like us, but they physically coped much better than we did towards the end of the game," said coach Ivica Olić.

Thanks for the links.

Good result.

I wonder about the performance?

Nice raking ball from Valadon to set up the goal.
Performance in the first half was interesting, nearly every pass was forward and we would try and create a chance almost immediately after getting possession. Possession was 50-50 but I reckon we had more possessions if that makes sense

There is a balance, and we were in better balance the 2nd half

Given recent discussions this paper is interesting, title slightly misleading:

Youth International Experience Is a Limited Predictor of Senior Success in Football: The Relationship Between U17, U19, and U21 Experience and Senior Elite Participation Across Nations and Playing Positions". authored by Herrebrøden and Bjørndal and published in Frontiers in Sports and Active Living in 2022.

they found that success at u17s was a slightly negative predictor (but not statistically significant)
Success at u19 a modestly good predictor and success at u21 youth tournaments a strong predictor

u20 success would be decent predictor then

As for ages of the starting xi
Australia was 21.3 and Croatia was 20.2. So about 1 year.
