Like Oz they have a massive problem getting past the mainstream sports but they've succeeded by focusing on the subculture that DOES enjoy football, rather than waste so much money on trying to convert the casual observers.

So successful that the overwhelming majority of US football fans are gagging for the USL Premiership to start in 2027 with 3 divisions of pro/rel between them....

Domestic only selection for both Australia and New Zealand every year on ANZAC Day would be absolutely awesome, could extend to NPL and Joeys players... even domestic Socceroos regulars - gives the coaching staff a fresh look at some outliers and not being FIFA window sanctioned wont count towards capping or any other worry for players or staff... Just an old fashioned traditional friendly...

One year here one year there.... with all the pomp and pageantry that NRL and AFL do and more... go big or go home stuff, fly overs, cannons, bugles the works....
 
My biggest concern for aussie football is us getting kicked out of Asia if China continues to not make world cups.

Big reason they went to 48 was to get some of these bigger populated nations in the tourney. I think if UAE, Qatar and China continue to not make world cups they may petition to vote us out as Oceania now has a direct spot. They have the money to sway the right people.

Even if they make the world cup they will get their pants pulled by the other teams.

This worry is never far from my mind. It's part of the reason I keep writing articles about splitting Asia into East and West with East absorbing Oceania.

Would NZ risk its certain place in every future World Cup (and the money that comes with that) for a much better competitive and game-growing future?
