Chronicles of a stable genius - all the biggliest stuff

It's all interesting to see the reciprocal tariff chart. Trump has banged on about these things since the 80's.

Nevertheless it's like a wage split for a player loan. The giant club may still pay 80% in order for the player to develop. Governments around the world have strategists putting these plans together to get the best balance.

Tariff now has a bad name yet there was very little outcry with everyone else slapping it on everyone else.

China had a 218% tariff on Australian wine after fears it was being dumped there and undermining Chinese wine producers. Oh heaven forbid importing cheaply would undermine a local industry!

You're an idiot. The 10% GST is imposed on all goods and services (except fresh foods and a couple other items), not just imported goods. So the GST does not give any advantage to local goods vs American goods.

Some people are so simple arnt they. And yes, we have had a free trade agreement for quite a while.

Trump said me da figures so it must be trew

Not to mention the majority of calculations negative and positive are off the mark. I’m rubbish at maths and even I can figure that out they’ve largely done bizarre calculations

The utter childishness, ridiculousness and unbelievable lack of intelligence shown by Trump and his administration has been completely exemplified by their logic of their tariff impositions. It now appears that the way the supposed "tariffs charged to the USA" by at least some countries, as determined by the USA, was calculated, and I use the word calculated very loosely, by dividing the trade imbalance of a country by the total imports of that country to the USA.

For example, with Cambodia, in 2024 $12.7 billion of goods was imported to the USA from Cambodia, and only $322 million worth was imported into Cambodia from USA. The trade imbalance is therefore 12.7 - 0.322 = $12.378 billion. Trade imbalance divided by total imports is 12.378/12.7 = 0.9746. The tariff charged to USA on Trump's chart was 97%.

Indonesia, $17.9 trade surplus with USA and $28 billion total export to USA, 17.9/28 = 0.6393. The tariff charged on Trump's chart was 64%.

These numbers have absolutely nothing to do with tariffs that may or may not be levied.

So, unsurprisingly, Trump et al again distribute unmitigated lies and bullshit to justify their actions. And distribute it completely unashamedly and with complete impunity. If someone had written this as fiction a few years ago it would have been completely unbelievable.

I dont think even they are hiding behind the fact these tariffs are punative rather than fiscal... Its Trump strong arming the "dirty countries" playing yoyo with the world's economies because a few bright sparks have whispered in his ear what stocks he should short.... Funnily enough this will either work quite well for the US in the long run or fail spectacularly .... fingers crossed for the later.

I previously thought that Trump's motivation was making money for himself. I certainly think the sycophants he surrounds himself with are in it to milk as much money out of it as possible.

But with Trump, he is such a narcissistic sociopath that I think he genuinely believes the shit he comes up with, and as much as making money for himself I think that he really is doing it to try to go down in history as the greatest world leader there has ever been.

Yeah he comes across as gigantic megalomaniac alright .... There are some disturbed people in the US right now, worrying about the next 3.5 years.... IF he doesnt manage to run for another term that is :(

Looking forward to seeing Apple, Nike, Samsung, NVIDIA, TSMC, Hyundai etc building factories in the US.

So much winning.

I wonder what Trump thinks of Elon's giga factory in Shanghai, CHY-na?

Buy the dip. It'll all come back eventually.

Let me know when you think that might be.

Woodside looking alright. 10% dividend fully franked, down 10% today.

They reckon when the markets open tonight it's going to be another bloodbath.

In my younger years, Australia had all manner of products manufactured locally. No longer.

Australia will be totally "up the creek without a paddle" if China goes on the warpath - and U.S. doesn't come to our aid. Literally everything needed for warfare, that requires spare parts, need to be imported. e.g. parts for our F-35 fighter jets.

I'm guessing we would not last long in a shooting war, with the need to import ammunition and missiles.

I am regretful to be part of the generation that initially thought, at the time, that "outsourcing" manufacturing -- and having Australia run as a "service economy" -- was a viable idea. It's not.

Being part of a global economy means you're stuffed when the other countries you trust go rogue - and I don't mean just the U.S. Is there any sense in making a totalitarian regime to be our biggest trading partner? Whose great idea was that?

The current generation, on the other hand, is under their own delusion of destroying our self-sufficiency in energy, all in the name of "saving the planet" based on a false premise of man-driven climate change. If you want to see how the Lefties have fooled the bulk of the sheep, do some research into how the data was manipulated in the key scientific paper by John Cook in 2013, titled "Quantifying the consensus on anthropogenic global warming in the scientific literature".

I learn from history how a country like Argentina, at one time, was one of the most prosperous nations in the world, but was gutted by numerous bad policy choices, and corruption and greed. Australians think that we can never lose our status as a prosperous nation. But things can change in the course of a generation or two. Hence, the foolish decisions made by the current generation are setting a course for long term impoverishment.

What I'm saying is: maybe some tariffs of our own, to regenerate Australian self-sufficiency, might be the right direction. But no one is brave enough to change to that course.

Yeah renewables are a scam. Cheering because I've received my third zero electricity bill in a row. 12kw system, no battery. I'm +$150 in credit.

Bloody lefties and their climate change bullshit.
