A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 26

really happy to see brazette try to cut outside again and mix it up. Atkinson is anticipating the cut inside

is it my imagination or is the crowd less awful than most city games?
They were giving out two for one tickets lots of families in general admission. I reckon they need to lower the prices for the wings as well and if we can try get back to 8K it'll be good

The game had its moments and BR were certainly competitive. The game continues to expose City's issues which are a slow backline that relies heavily on the midfield, and the inability to score when they should. What on earth was Talbot doing on the left? That was one of the more daft moves by Vidmar. I don't know when Talbot's contract is up but he should not be getting an offer. Lopane will be an AL journeyman. Just pointless play.

BR have some emerging talent but after that it really drops. Congrats to RZ for outcoaching Vidmar in the first half.

Seeing Halloran for City's second goal annoyed me. He walked while we were defending our back third and he would have been in a position to put pressure on Tilio's run. Lazy moment that could have made a difference.

Tilio running with the ball is great to see - even against us. He used to do that and it was either injured or coached out of him. Glad he is getting it back. The first two goals were his running with the ball and we could not handle that.

I wondered if VAR took an extra look at Atkinson in front of Acton for the third City goal. I know he did not impede the vision or run, but Acton was clearly trying to cover him in an offside position. He was only potentially offside the moment Fererya(?) hit the ball so it does not bother me - just wondering about the technical side of that. My gut feel is that he is onside from the corner and when Fererya hits the ball there is nothing about his positioning that would make a difference to Acton not touching the ball.

Back to playing like we have been all season. Competitive without getting a thing out of it. 2 shots for 2 goals says a lot. I do not consider us clinical at all with that - we are just not creating enough or rolling the dice enough to win a game like that.

Seemed we also spent most of the second half with a defensive mindset and bombing the ball anywhere to nobody or to a City player rather than trying to exert some sustained pressure with any level of control.

The reason we don't play a low block in the aleague is that we suck at it. Sooner or later an individual or good play is going to open the defending team up.

Losing key defenders hurts City more than losing midfielders or forwards - they still have those areas covered with their depth. They were shaky in the first half and I do think that was a poor choice by Vidmar to put Behich in at CB. City still made mistakes but were much better in the second half.

brazette always cuts inside. To make it at the next level you need to be effective cutting both ways, yet nearly every winger we produce can only cut one way

....just as i say that he cuts inside and gets an assist :D
I was thinking exactly the same thing - "here he goes again - dragging his trailing leg to prepare to cut inside". I wonder if he was setting up the goal line run all along and is really very clever or if he has bad reasons for cutting inside so often and allowing most of his attacks to be anticipated and countered.

Have to say that even with them anticipating him cutting inside he is not bothered by the traffic and can generally create at least movement and rapid decision making in his opponents and their defensive structures. He was up against 3 players frequently.

I thought Berenguer was a bit more influential this game at times too. That was a pleasant surprise for me.

What a goal by Segecic. Dumb shit like Hannover don't even know he exists. He's got to get to a European club soon where he's highly valued, not hoarded.

Segecic ranked 6th in the world across 62 Leagues for the most goals for an U21 player this season. Pepi was first. This was a posted dated March 25.

What a peg he has. Hrustic like but hopefully not the bad attitude.

Good to see Segacic start. Hits them as hard as Irankunda. Net buster.

And fuck Auckland.

Auckland will cum back and win the game no doubt, been the best sdie in the ALM for a reason. Go Auckland!!

Nixs unlucky to lose that game, Thats our season over and out.
As a supporter, do you find the commentary on Nix games to be one sided and often inane?

I was saying to my wife that if a Victory player hit a ball into a Nix player's back the commentators would say "What fantastic positioning - he did not even need to see the ball to be in the right place". Honestly, within 30 seconds Victory hit a ball into a Nix player's back and the commentary team said "What fantastic positioning". Made me laugh.

Yeah there a little one sided, but that's to be expected from kiwi announcers. They don't always do it as i find often they seem to write the Nix off most home matches ever since Auckland came into the comp.

Cracking game, Sydney got lucky not to lose towards the end but Segecic once again proving he’s a special talent with those two great strikes.

you couldn’t shut phoenix supporters up at the start of the season about how they were showing Aussies how it’s done blah blah

Back to empty stadium and dire football - remind me again what they bring?

Auckland will be a ghost town in 12 months too

Yes that’s cause they are total fuckwits

They have always been like this. Complete chip on their shoulder mentality. Everyone has met a kiwi like this at a party.

Caught the NJ vs CCM game. Was definitely not expecting that result. CCM players appeared totally disinterested, just going through the motions. It was good to see Clayton Taylor take another step forward in his development as well.

Have to feel sorry for Vartuli playing behind such a hopeless defence. Had to be the worst Adelaide performance for several years, and it is hard to believe that this side was lying second in the table earlier this season. Not sure if the Veart situation affected the performance, but they simply should not have capitulated to the worst team in the league. At least 4 or 5 players should immediately be axed from this AU squad.
Ironic that our worst forward scored the goal.

I reckon the "sacking" of Veart had a lot to do with it. NJ also lost following revelations that Stanton was being terminated. The players for both teams were playing for their coach and having the rug pulled out from under them had an impact.
