General 2024/5 A League Men's thread

Yes very interesting points. It's going to be sad to see some players leave
That's football. Players come and go. Always disappointing to see a fan favourite leave but the following season there will inevitably be a new fan favourite. Unlike the AFL, we don't have the luxury of being the top league in the world. The best players are always going to go onto better opportunities.

Yes but if I understand it's only one marquee player allowed no loyalty incentives anymore so that's whole teams getting guttered

But isn't loyalty exemptions for players like grant that's been there forever?
Not really. It was added about 10 years ago. It's 10% salary exempt for any player that has been with the club for 5 consecutive seasons. Then an additional 10% exempt for every year after that with a cap of 50%. Not many players get to that 50% level. Right now Rhyan Grant would have 50% of his salary exempt. Not sure how many other players on 10 consecutive seasons, playing right now.

Ok let's see what happens then

Auckland: PG (h), WU (a).
City: AU (h), SFC (h).
Western United:
SFC (h), Auckland (h).
Wanderers: NJ (a), MFC (a).
MVFC: MFC (a), NJ (h).
Sydney: WU (a), MCFC (a).
Adelaide:
BR (a), MCFC (a), Bye.
MacArthur: MVFC (h), WSW (h)

- Auckland will win the premiers plate this week.
- City in pole position to snag 2nd.
- WU have been around 2nd/3rd for a while but after 2 losses in a row, still might need to win both games to snag a home final.
- WSW are one of the form teams. Have 2 away games, but they’re both winnable.
- MVFC: Will have to win both games to have a chance of snagging a home final, but it feels like we are destined for 5th.
- SFC: Tricky draw gives Adelaide a sniff.
- AU: All over if they don’t win tonight.
- MFC: Highly unlikely.

Prediction:
1.Auckland
2. City
3. WSW
4. WU
5. MVFC
6. SFC

so auckland and cfg are the only teams guaranteed finals spots as of now
if western, wsw and victory win this weekend they will also be guaranteed

Thought Stanton, Jets coach, did well with the the squad he has had in the games I've seen Jets play. Disappointed he is going.

Reckon there getting expelled?

I guess we'll know for sure in 2 weeks .... watch this space.

The ATO’s lack of patience with Sava comes barely two weeks before WMG will face the ATO’s wind-up application in the federal court.

Taking the kids down to watch the Wanderers play McArthur at campbelltown. Where is the best place to park?

I was looking on google maps, do you guys think it would be safe to park my car down a random street close to the ground?

Thanks in advance :)

It is looking bad for Western United. Odds on to be down to 12 clubs, I reckon - and its not looking good for the Bulls either. Frankly, we all know that neither club should have been given entry to the competition.

This is a good read. The loss figures are horrendous for all clubs, but it does appear that Western United's doom is not yet certain. A dark tunnel, for sure, but some distant light...

Nothing less that what some of us have been criticising for nearly 7 years now....
