He was sacked 3 weeks before the start of the 2018 season for reasons that will never be justified. It still remains arguably one of the worst decisions in the clubs illustrious history, the club that year only survived relegation on the final day. CT has since won 2 championships with Oakleigh...that club would still be trophyless if South didnt sack him. He was a top coach, a gentleman, someone always willing to give his time to the supporters, but above all he was brilliant being the face of the club.
 
We are such a poorly run club and there is a huge disconnect with the supporters and the board. Here’s just a few things:

- still no AGM from last year
- no members forum since 2019
- self interest all over the club with the President’s daughter being Business Development Manager and also the president’s nephew being assistant coach this season with no coaching experience or qualifications.
- former football director Andrew Mesorouni who was the architect behind the CT sacking and still heavily involved in the club’s son got a senior spot in the squad this season.
- the worst recruitment in one off season with no replacement for Sawyer and didn’t upgrade in any other areas.
- below average junior set-up
- the worst canteen in the NPL (poor quality food and service not up to standard)
- holding onto Esteban too long due to his relationship with Andrew Mesouroni
- the best coach was available John Anastasiadis and the board buckled and let Heidelberg swoop

rotten timing to be a poorly run club

hopefully the threat of being demoted from the nst after it goes h&a is useful for sorting out these issues

As for crowds, this is a pretty low point, about 400 yesterday, if winning not much more in the Esteban era because the team was still very hard to watch, its been a very angry fanbase since the infamous Chris Taylor sacking in 2018 and the clubs never recovered. I'll add to that, the matchday experience is woeful, worst social club in Victoria imo.

We could be a lot better in many facets but we are genuinely a poorly run club. The disconnect between the supporters and the board is enormous.

it probably is one of the worst experiences, terrible food area as well limited choice poor quality and very expensive. the members upstairs bit i haven't been in but if thats what you are talking about as one of the worst then it probably is

but they aren't planning to pay for the h&a travel as far as I know?

They also usually have no food after games for supporters because everything goes towards preparing a buffet for the players. They have numerous tvs but instead of putting something live on like an afl game or an npl game they either have them turned off or have something on from years ago.

The upstairs bit is off limits for the regular supporter, thats where the big wigs drink champagne whilst South gets massacred on the pitch.

This is where the club is out touch, unlike a local club where most people are travelling 10-15 mins max, the majority of South gameday attendees are usually facing a 45-60 minute drive to get there, this club should be going the extra mile to provide a decent gameday experience, but they just dont get it. I dont think they ever will.

Will Mike answer this. The reality is Mike stands with the current board who have orchestrated the mess that we are in. Mike do you think the current board represent the Oceania Club of the Century name.

In fact answer every one of these points Mike. The juniors are failing - one team made the division one for NpL juniors, only one. That’s embarrassing for our club.

I’ve bought up every single of the points in my previous posts that this poster is raising. None of it is fake. It seems Mike is okay with the rife nepotism raised

Notice how he doesn’t have the guts to make an account on post on here. The pet labrador for the ownership.

You talk about second division. The way the clubs being run, we’re not fit for fucken VPL. And you want to gloat about second division. We can’t even get the basics of Victorian football right malaka

Oh and before you say that none of us back our club Mike. We all back South. We want South to be back where it belongs as the leader in football within Victoria and hopefully Australia. The reality is the board you support and back has destroyed this club. They’ve made us a laughing stock in the Greek community and allowed a minnow club like Oakleigh to win several championships.

I want accountability. It seems some people are scared to point out the reality of the situation. At least now we are having the conversation which needs to be had.

South supporters we love to shit on Aki but he runs Oakleigh brilliantly. All of Oakleigh businesses are onboard with Cannons.

They have their politics sure. All clubs do. The reality is Oakleigh have won how many NPL championships recently. What they’re doing is working brilliantly. The facilities upgrades and the money invested into Jack Edward’s is crazy but ultimately their facilities rock and we hold onto our juniors training at Pitches 18 and 19 at Albert Park in worse condition then Princess Highway.

We only have Lakeside thanks to Leo. The previous administration.

It’s an abject disaster that we have allowed that to occur. Oakleigh, a nothing club. It’s disgusting. Have some pride re file

I gotta admit, Aki and the Oakleigh leadership have been doing a wonderful job these past years.

I don't know what it's like at your ground, but many times I've been right behind the coaches box, observing and listening to how Chris Taylor coaches. Right next to me is usually always Aki and the clubs president/board members etc.

They actually come out and hang around with us common folk. I've seen them hang around the canteen area after the game having drinks and chats with random supporters too, they don't act like high up tossers who think they are something special, so it makes Oakleigh feel more like a family/community club if that makes sense.

From my point of view, it seems like everyone thats involved with Oakleigh, is in it because they actually are passionate about the club and want to see it succeed, not treating it as some sort of play thing to profit out of it, unlike the afl club i follow.

Honest question to the South fans, do you feel the same when you go to South games?
 
A long array of bad decisions that yes still plague us as with all clubs... no doubt we shouldve been more adaptable but obviously not and its come to the boil finally.

A few things though:
1. CT wasn't the coach to be a lifetime at south lets be honest - the pressure to constantly perform is non existent at a no support club like oakleigh is why he has succeeded.. he is at best good with a budget, he is by no means great (as some try to convince us here - may I remind them that even they were complaining about his playing style etc not too long ago or have they conveniently forgotten those details?)
2. The lack of conviction for JA is the telling blow as most point out. This is what we are paying for along with the needless persistence with Esteban! Recruitment is another issue that is multifaceted as most know and tied to coaches and board so we won't repeat the mistakes there - we would have a different convo now if Sawyer had stayed or was replaced properly lets not ignore that fact.
3. The disconnect with board etc is not new. The nepotism is at play at all clubs (ours shines through bc we are falling apart currently). Which club doesn't have closed off inner circles? The difference is at most clubs heads wouldve rolled, where we have utter silence, but again for how long bc I can't see them able to sustain the current situation, without taking steps behind the scenes to maintain control.
4. The people that have popped up out of the woodwork all of a sudden are the same "dormant" that have been non existent for so many years in their majority, very few have been paid up members I can guarantee. And Smfcmike is not the benchmark to tell us what is going right or wrong,
5. For those that want sth to be an oakleigh, then I'm sorry but that is the real end of the club, they are not the same calibre or ever will be, lets not forget that FACT! MK (to a lesser extent heidelberg and preston) are the only clubs that can claim to be anywhere near close to our status like it or not, and if we have forgotten that then may aswell not worry what league we play in bc its already over!

The question now is proper debate/forum for us to get things back on track and quickly.. the board failed at its attempt with half baked measures and unless they know something we don't regarding NST the time has come for actual answers (either way an annoucement is warranted or resigantions).. ill say again if they know that we are moving to h&a and OFC guaranteed officially, then quite frankly what do I care what happens to the NPL it will be our under 23s squad getting gametime anyway, that's for your oakleighs at best, the problem is if it's not (as we continue to fear)!
