World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

Maeda scored 33 goals this year still couldn't get in the team... they are stacked.
It's 16 goals for Maeda isn't it? I remember that Boyle was one behind on 15. Still impressive they can leave him out. Is he normally selected? I think this is a weakened team so wondering if he was one of the senior omissions to make way for some of the depth.

would love a minutes/league breakdown of their squad. Will do tonight if no one else has time

That doesn't include Yuito who is about to move from Bronby to Freiburg. Their depth is insane.

Will do one position at a time as time permits between work meetings

Goal keepers:

Keisuke OsakaJ League14407.05 (11.1 xgot faced, 12 goals conceded)
Kosei TaniJ League15306.82 (15 xgot faced, 18 goals conceded)
All of these are weak shot stoppers. We might actually have a slim advantage in this position despite suzuki playing the seri a

pretty even with what we can dish up in the back line, which is tricky because the backline is our strength

Wow Japan really have gone reserve squad. No doubting the skill but there is some vulnerability there too. They'll be keen to impress. Cap numbers don't really reflect importance as Velupillay is way up the pecking order with his few caps.

What is awkwardly concerning is they'll likely player the better batch against us and the raw ones against Indonesia. Should Indonesia be in the hunt, it'll heap even more pressure on.

Personally I hope we can avoid defeat against Japan but Saudi don't beat Bahrain and China snag a draw against Indonesia.

Yikes their "rotated" midfield blows us out of the water. Joel Fujita dominates the Jupiler league as much as Triantis dominates the Scottish league. Joel is a year older but still....no suprise I guess but they are well ahead of us

Much weaker than other areas on the park but still, their weakened squad has us covered

home ground advantage and aussie dna needs to do a lot of work here!
