The Western United Thread

There has been a lot of prehatching counting of chickens going on with the WU buyout. A casual look at the history of the proposed buyers suggests that the deal isn't done until the money appears in the relevant bank account.
The deal looks to be a some way from over the line at this point.

I did some digging myself. The two entity's KAM and KAM sports only appeared a few days before sale and literally the only website that has fuck all to do with sport or sports management or anything is a .eu domain.

Which may or may not them but I couldn't find anything else relating to the company names that has been published so far.

Yeah, it's not encouraging, is it?

I've always said football finance is a don't ask, don't tell kind of vibe.

Hell the state of Qatar owns PSG, God know where that money comes from.
With you there. It is a genuine ethical issue, but personally I don't believe"sportswashing" works. Seriously, does anyone's view of Saudi Arabia change because they own Newcastle United? And the ME World Cup? Did that change anyone's mind on Qatar? Did it increase the small number of people who even think about Qatar? All it did, in the end, was produce a lot of unfavourable publicity about their appalling labour conditions for foreign workers.

And, anyway, sport is very small beer in this regard. Have a look at the arms trade if you want to see selling one's soul that has real world effect.

PFA has given them another 10 days (I beleive) before players can leave for free even if contracted - just in time for Championship too, great timing.
Gotta feel for the young players. The main starting XI will be able to get offers from a number of other AL clubs. Thurgate will get snapped up quicker than you can say "shovel-ready". On the other hand, the young ones and the squadies may find it a bit difficult though, especially with the salary cap changes coming into effect.

Gotta also feel for the small but rusted on fan base... some will go back to their original Aleague clubs but many will be lost to the sport forever.... bloody real estate wankers and Fox really did a number on the Aleague....
