World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

1 week until Japan game. Having visions of a heroic and disastrous night. We might get stage fright and a motivated reserve Japan will toy and win. We'll undoubtedly fight but I fear a bit of overstretching or lapses. Not to say Japan may do that themselves in parts.

The Saudi 4 goals is so telling but near meaningless going into the final window. This is going to be a big window of hindsight but hopefully at least a draw for Australia means Saudi will have to win in Bahrain and Bahrain are plucky. I get the feeling if we lose Bahrain may take the lead to taunt us a bit.

It's been another mixed to shit campaign with lots of error and luck along the way. We're thankfully in a better position than the last two due to more points being dropped across the group.

2 wins from here though and its a brilliant campaign

I think based on our past few wc cycles that 1.5 points per game in the third round is par. 2 points gets us to par and also gets us qualified
 
Give or take, its a must win game for the Socceroo's. If we cant wn this game then surely we have to look at our option leading into the play offs.

I think you need to look at the potential equations. A win will secure qualification but not winning may see the other teams slip up also. Indonesia are lingering but hopefully drop points against China.

A win doesn't secure qualification, it will still require Saudi Arabia to drop points. It's true that the Saudis need to overcome a significant goal difference, but as they play us in the last game every goal they win by reduced our goal difference as well.

Massive gd protects us tho if we are 3 points ahead on the final day
 
Come game day i will have no finger nails left, popped a few Valiums and be downing some scotch all before kick off. These games drive my anxiety's through the roof.
 
I think I read Friday was the second last camp day. I guess it's enough time to remove what is not too much jetlag but I kind of wish the squad had arrived Wednesday in Perth. I wonder when Japan are getting in?

The odd thing is Triantis withdrew. I truly hope it was more about being present to sort some affairs and Popovic said he's in anyway. In saying that, Popovic isn't the type to allow that and he'd have told him to delegate everything to his agent.

I think Triantis withdrew to sort his next move and play for time regarding international obligations.

Here's hoping to relief when the squad is announced. Doubt it though.
