A Trip Down Memory Lane

Opposite end of the metro - Mona Vale to Palm regularly.
To this day my go to's - went living in Narrabeen then to Queenscliff pre marriage times.
Go to Manly for brekkys/lunch/walks as well with the Boss and Long Reef has a brilliant golf course to play.

Lovely part of Sydney mate. Would've loved to be able to live there, but never able to afford it.

Lucky you. Used to do this before Dad died but never after as my mother and my kinda step father werent into it.

Mate the shire and Coogee sure isn’t cheap as well.
Both coast lines have their exy and affordable sides.

Today yes but not in 70s. We had a neat semi detached on the main Coogee drag and we were certainly not well off. We lived adjacent to the Cronulla coastline too.

Ah back on topic considering properties my ethnic ol man bought a 1/4 acre battle axe driveway block on the north shore back in the early 60’s for $3k haha bloody Anglo territory whilst rest of the fam settled in Strathfield and Blakehurst.

My first wage having dropped out end of 4th form you know now called Year 10 was working for Clark Rubber $78 a/w.
I started work the week after school finished for the old man said if I’m leaving better have job or all hell will break loose haha
Partied like hell schooners were what ? 40odd cents ciggies wild woodbines etc were around those cents as well.
Then went did my Trade Cert being a mechanic.
It was 2bob to cross the harbour bridge through the tolls.
My how have the times changed.

You don't appreciate it enough

I don't miss clubbing though hated it

Why would you waste summer days sleeping in - oh that’s right Melbourne haha
 
By the way
There was no night clubbing back in the day.
That was a new phenomenon to us ol blokes as D using that expression.
Pubs pubs and pubs but with Live bands every weekend wherever you went.
The icon Aussie bands of the 70/80’s epic nights !

That sounds better I always enjoyed bars and house parties but clubbing was usually seen as the place to be at the time

When I left school my mates went on to Uni, TAFE and colleges. My parents said "get a job first then you can do extra studies if you want to".

Full time Parcel Pickup at Woolies until I got into the Public Service at $110 a week. I wore a 3 piece brown suit working in parcel pickup :).

Could park right at work in Canberra City without paying - now you have to pay a fortune for the privilege of parking anywhere near city work.

$5 in your fuel tank would get you a decent distance even in the mighty Kingswood wagon I bought off my folks for $600.

I did not do clubbing at all until I was about 30 and then only because it was a thing to do after work from time to time. Hated the noise and having to shout if you wanted to actually talk to anyone. Much more a BBQ Picnic and any sort of games or sports with my mates type.

Clubbing was a wank and a chest beating scene by the toughies of the time.
Like RIMB that came later in our lives - live band scene despite being loud was far better run and joy, if only we knew to appreciate it better at the time didn’t know how good we had it !
 
RIMB we had same re Holden.
First car was a ‘71 HG 6cyc Kingswood for $600 as well.
Drove it like I stole it - cops wouldn’t book you like today, you could a warning now and then.
No aircon wind up windows - my high was fitting a tape deck - remember those times when the tape deck would chew up the cassette tape !
Going for your license was a matter of minutes like what 10 odd questions.
No freeways those days single lane hwy up down the coast lines.
I recall getting to melb in some 8hrs from Sydney - now with the freeways and limits it’s 10hrs - same applies getting up the goldy.
By the way I still have my collection of cassettes from those days and LP’s and 45’s.

Yes free parking anywhere what a rip today Sydney is a gold mine just buy the land and build a carpark.
