Here's a problem I have.

The trotting out of the word 'Islamophobe' which can often imply that someone is a bigot or racist ..

There is no race of Muslims. Islam is a religion, a system of ideas, subscribed to by people of every race and ethnicity. It’s just like Christianity in that regard. Christianity and Islam are both aggressively missionary faiths, and they win converts from everywhere.

We are critical towards Christianity all the time and with very good reason. At times it's an abhorrent religion. And we constantly worry about its political and social influences but no one confuses this for bigotry against Christians as people.

What is happening is that you have a mirror held up and can't accept when you are called out for it. So anti-Semitism exists and is abhorrent, but every other religion is open season to be criticised, no matter if that criticism is false, incites hatred, or spreads bigotry.

We have segregated gyms. Not Muslim owned or invented, why can't women request their own space at the school? Our school has a girls only gym. Absolutely no boys allowed to use it, not even male teachers. No one demands segregated activities, it just happens. In all schools.

Oh no, a person wants a day off work to celebrate their religious holiday. The entire Gregorian calendar caters to Christian holidays, but heaven forbid someone else wants to celebrate their religious holiday. We're not demanding. We ask, and we use sick leave, or paid or unpaid leave.

Not seen a single school demand food be removed for religious reasons.

I have seen schools demand Staff and teachers sign contracts denouncing being gay or lesbian. We have a whole Catholic system that I can never get a job in simply because of my religion. In fact I was rejected from a school not based on experience or anything, but simply because, "you're not Christian, which means we can't trust your character as you can't get a priest letter".

Yes, those are the exact words said to me. I guess that discrimination is ok, but asking for a day off to celebrate a religious holiday is horrible.

I don't condone anything in the Catholic system and that's something that needs to be removed. Schools shouldn't have any religious affiliation.

Australia is thankfully slower in the food aspect but it's rampant across Europe. We don't have cafeterias as such.

Most Christian religious holidays don't have any religious weight for the average Australian and that's the way to go. It's not like public holidays will be removed from the calendar. Besides, many progressions need to work on those days.

The issue is too many of any faith for that matter, keep reverting their viewpoints and decisions back to fucking books from the stone age. But despite several robust discussions with Muslims about Islam, Sharia Law and their place in our modern society never by a Muslim. And having lived for many years in London I've known numerous Muslims.

I've found that they are mostly genuinely intrigued by my questioning and my criticism. But I have been called an 'Islamophobe' by non Muslims, its usually been by white middle class liberal types when discussing the pro's and cons of Islam.

Admittedly I do have many reservations about Sharia Law, particularly concerning it's relationship with people from the LGBTQi community who are often subjected to ubiquitous condemnation of their sexuality by purveyors of Sharia Law. And that's an LGBTQi community which the middle class white liberals usually tend to be sympathetic towards.

In my experience Muslims are generally quite cool about my reservations. Others I've mentioned super quick to trott out the 'Islamophobe' tag...

How can indiscriminate killing of unarmed people be justifiable? -- And before you bother - OTHER crimes have been committed in the name of other other beliefs and they are also equally vile.... what makes Hamas and their cause above basic humanity? because they have suffered for 70 years? So what? Other, alot worthier, people have suffered for centuries.... If my neighbour builds a new fence and "steals" 10cms of my property, I fight him in court, Im not gonna rape his wife and drag his dead body through the mud.....

Don't bring what's happening in Europe and making like it happens here. I don't know the European cases you speak of because never heard of them. However, you're doing exactly what you claim not to be. You're spreading dear workout justification. You're generalising a whole people based on one incident in a different continent.

Doesn't matter if they have weight or not.That's a personal choice. Just because you choose to follow a less religious path, doesn't mean everyone should. Fortunately I don't have to anymore, but I'm my previous career I worked every Christmas, new year, Easter, so my colleagues could have that time off with their family. I never questioned how religious they were. I just respected their holiday. You not respecting ours is bigotry

Don't agree... Private schools have EVERY right to practice, pray, teach in whatever manner they chose provided they adhere to the Education departments core curriculum and basic Australian law.

So why do some many examples of implemented or attempted implementation of sharia law in parallel societies in Europe go totally against the law of the land?

I get these are often through back room clerics who make little sense half the time. Do these examples count as bad examples of sharia?

Because at the moment same-sex sexual marriage is currently prohibited in Gaza as is same sex activity which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment.

Curriculum is what you teach, discrimination is prejudice based on a person's race or religion. You can teach religious education as long as it aligns with curriculum. You shouldn't be making decisions based on a person's skin colour or religion

And that's kind of the crux of my entire argument. Israel has pretty liberal laws concerning homosexuality. Haifa has one of the highest per capita populations of homosexuals in the world. Now Haifa is a very young, progressive 'tech city', much like San Francisco in that sense but across the whole state of Israel the LGBTQi community is still quite large in comparison to most other countries.

It would be unfortunate if homosexuality was banned in area's that were returned to the Palestinians and put under the governance of a group like Hamas.

In the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority its far more liberal. But the Palestinian Authority don't have the numbers that Hamas would have in any democratic election.
