Looking at the Canadian football team's website they only have the one game against Colombia in Harrison, New Jersey in the October window as it stands.Aren’t Canada already fully booked in that window?
Oh I must have misread their fixtures, ty.Looking at the Canadian football team's website they only have the one game against Colombia in Harrison, New Jersey in the October window as it stands.
Only 2 friendlies per window, so one of the USA or Canada instead of both would have allowed the South American option in October.Would be nice to get a Central or South American opponent whilst we're in the neighbourhood as well.
African opposition is also an option for November. They finish qualification in October with only 4 teams playing for the playoff spot in November.Only 2 friendlies per window, so one of the USA or Canada instead of both would have allowed the South American option in October.
Now that September and October are sorted it will be interesting how November, March and June opponents and logistics pan out
I had been half expecting some top level Asian opponents this year but now reckon that South American, Central American, African and European opponents will be considered for the final 6 friendlies (assuming 2 in June).
The draw is in December so the November games may be organised and announced after the September matches, then the March and June ones once the WC Finals draw is made and Euro playoff teams are known.
I haven't checked the UEFA November WCQ "byes" schedule but unless there are any particularly good options would prefer to be playing some games against South American opposition in November, whether home or away. Hopefully they haven't already filled their schedules.
Good point, organisers may want things locked in a little earlier than 4 weeks ahead but some teams may have qualified early so that could also work out.African opposition is also an option for November. There will probably also be some decent teams who have missed out as well. Even with the extra spots African qualifying is still pretty cutthroat.Good point, organisers may want things locked in a little earlier than 4 weeks ahead but some teams may have qualified early so that could also work out.
Probably the 11 we dream of seeing to have many questions answered. Slight issue may be the wing bacs and wingers being on top of each other. Goodwin and Irankunda narrowing can allow them to get some shots away. Needn't bother speculating about a back 4. Isn't going to happen.I'd really like to see something like this in Popovic's formation to see how it works
Goodwin - Toure - IrankundaI think that XI has the potential to be steely in defense and lightening on the counter. Blend our defensive strengths with our attacking mindset and find a balance between the two.
Irvine - Triantis
Bos ------------------------------------- Bennie
Burgess - Souttar - Circati
Ryan
Yeah I had a similar thought but with McGree on for Goodwin. He can invert to assist the midfield and leave the width to Bos. Ditto Segecic for Irankunda.Probably the 11 we dream of seeing to have many questions answered. Slight issue may be the wing bacs and wingers being on top of each other. Segecic or McGree for Irankunda can offer a lot more roaming. Many clubs now have one specialised wing back and a winger on the other wing back flank. Irankunda could linger here given the best two defensive players are on that side which should be adequate cover.
