The Western United Thread

@Michael_Zappone
I was out at Tarneit for the Australia Cup only two weeks ago and the messages coming from Western Utd officials were positive. They were expecting the deal to be given the green light around about now, including approval of the new ownership

If you deregulated and abolished all minimum criteria there would be 30 clubs capable of playing on the national level within a season or two. As those clubs naturally sort themselves into leagues the top leagues would be higher standard than what you can achieve through regulation

the tough lesson is that you cannot regulate your way to prosperity. But this is the consensus of every left wing economist and center left party in the western world. You can regulate moral goals - e.g. players still have to be paid if they do their ACL, but thats it. (I don't mention right wing economists/parties. They of course agree but also don't think you can regulate moral goals)

We have tried to regulate youth academies to a higher standard with licensing criteria and the result of super expensive youth fees

we have tried to regulate the minimum standards of the nst to only cause indefinite delay

we have tried to regulate our way to a higher quality top division only to cause decades of stagnation and the death of our player pathways (partially reintroduced in 2014)

Of course it feels like there isn't enough money in the game when we use soviet era economic theories. We need to deregulate at all levels. Even starting a club at the bottom of the pyramid is needlessly complex compared to England

20 of those being Semi Pro clubs attempting to be run like a professional outfit....

I dont follow

You mean they were attempting to be pro in the nsl era, the time they were in the state league, recently in the npl or in a future nst?

As in these are semi pro clubs who would like to be/think they are professional clubs but don't have the capacity to be professional clubs if that makes sense? This is in reference to the current NPL clubs.

well thats pretty obvious it looks like this when you have nothing of the support you need by your governing bodies pretty damn obvious sherlock.
Hum hence why they are semi pro, semi everything so how else do you think you stand on your 2feet and operate Professionally.
Christ almighty.

I think they would rather not be pro unless forced to by minimum criteria. It was the fas minimum criteria forcing them to become pro, it isnt the clubs screaming for it

Yeah and theres people who just want to "LET" these NPL clubs into a professional top tier without demonstrating they have the capacity to do so you clown.

So tell me there champ whats the reason for ppl wanting this other than to complete the pyramid and the good of the game?

Your pro league criteria are about as sustainable and healthy as the financials of your teams... tell me though also, whats going on with that money owed to FA? The money owed to the yanks even? Creditors in general?
Profit and loss statements of your league healthy are they to have such a view?

With this many loans and bad credit debts why wouldnt NPL clubs have the capacity to be part of it.. run up a debt and fold seems to be the poster child of your league!

Gotchya. But if they want to be in the top tier, they would have to be pro.
At this stage I just advocate for them to play on a national stage somewhere. Its fine if its not in the a league, but we waste a lot of football resources if we overregulate things

Very sad about this but saw it coming from way back.

When the fuck will we get football right in this stupid country?
Mr C, business smart the 80/20 rule 101# applies.
As it can re our game, the major 20% got put in the bin (incl many/thousands devoted football followers), simple really imo but typically some mad greedy scientist came up with some other hair brain idea gave some/newbies/lost souls a show and left its skeleton the frnachise bodies wanted under their big game arms.
The FA need balls, if there's ever a time you take your game back would be now but.......let them hang, sooner or later they might have to knock on your door with a perscription script, then you got them by the curlies.
In the meantime start getting ready to put a broom through the X persons/bodies that are in your way, those who are protecting their agenda/gains.

Thanks for the insult - must be why you call yourslef biggie.
Mate I just stated the obvious your take it offensively - really what can I say.

By the way, from my perspective - I wouldn't want any of the treasured organic NPL's be part of what your into or after.
Yep they are not ready - not sure why you think some say so, when you've been hamstrung for 20yrs how could any biz/club stand up Pro unless alot of cash drops into their BSB.
What I do wish for is the NPL's to get the chance to grow and prosper as the hope that there is, build it and they will come unlike what the other model is, unless your maccas/toyota yer I get it but not regards to football.
Thats not a need/want - its about a game of football and we've gone from a semi pro NSL to a full blown make up model, one extreme to another - the $'s and computer says NO pretty damn obvious.
So runnign on a oily smelly rag has outlasted the glitz and glamour, like all fashion has its use by dates.
