    ALM/W TV deal

Decades ago Channel 7, who had the AFL rights, paid the old NSL money for the broadcast rights. Ch 7 duly put on the games at 3am. Football was not going to interfere with the AFL. So going to 9, which also has other sports, may mean that they get the crumbs. After all, if there is a game of NRL...

Can I clarify that 9Entertainment does not have the AFL broadcast rights - its 7WestMedia that does. 9Entertainment has NRL and tennis (Australian Open, Wimbledon). 7WestMedia has AFL and cricket.

No room for Tilio? or Botic? AFAIK Souttar has not started training yet and remains in rehab. Not sure on JBos or Farrell. How many minutes has Luongo played over the last six months?

Not trying to piss you off, but I do use it to piss off Greek mates. In Spanish, the Greeks are rarely referred to as Greek (Griego - from Latin) but instead are referred to as the Helens, which of course means Hellenic in English.

The Australian National Football Team General Discussion*OFFICIAL*

I have not had this feeling since ever. I don't know how to cope either. But as a fan I want more! I demand more! It would give me no end of pleasure to see Behich and Metcalfe holding the world cup aloft and being the first team outside of Europe or South America to win a WC. Hence, I want...

    Australian transfers 25-26 Summer

Nick Ansell is 31 and he played for quite a few years at MVC. Never great and I think that father time has caught up with him. Ryan Scott is 29 and a goal keeper, faced with a new generation of GK I think that his time was also up. Unfortunately, he never played for a side that a decent defense...

There is certainly more youth in the system but I am not sure that it is all that much. Auckland was pretty old, and MC was likely the youngest but not because of salary constraints but rather injuries to their older cohort meant that they were forced to play youth. BR had a few young players as...

World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

Chile is not much chop at the moment but Uruguay or Costa Rica would be a great assessment.

World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

I wouldn't mind a friendly against a high altitude country such as Mexico, Ecuador or Colombia (all qualified). Failing that, Venezuela or Bolivia.

No knocking JJ, but wasn't the A-League the concrete shoes on FA? If you look at the APL finances (which we can't but we can guesstimate), the APL is in the red - no make that the crimson - so if FA were to rescue the APL, then the figures would start like not enough.

Ugarcovic's career has never been solid. Just a quick look at Transfermarkt shows that only MC had given him more than 1 year contract and now WSW. So far he has played for 4 A-League clubs with WSW having him twice.

    Best overseas leagues for Aussies?

Aaron Mooy at WSW? Did not fit Popa's style and moved to Hearts (?).

Just what is the current relationship between FA and APL? I know that Conroy is chairman of both (?). Has FA taken over APL?

Have you ever heard the saying "good products sell themselves"? Well, they don't. That is why you have branding (infect the kiddies) and advertising.

With the high standard of play in the A-League, why are the crowds so low?

Cricket is an Anglosphere sport - won't see it in East Asia, Latin America, etc. What has changed globally is the commercialisation of USA sports such as Basketball, NFL and baseball. Football remains king world wide but FIFA is doing really well at ensuring the competition thrives. Also, the...
