But Japan beat uae and they would be on 4 points in that scenario who finishes where haha
If 3 teams got same points then use mini league between 3 teams

U20 Asian cup 2023
Mini league are used between Iran, Aus, Viet to decide at the end. (exclude game against Qatar) thats, why Iran finished top

Then vietnam out

Aus, Japan, UAE equal on 4 points ( game against viet by each teams won't be counted)

GD at this moment
Japan +3
UAE -1
Aus -2

Lets say
Aus 3 - 0 Japan
UAE 0-0 Vietnam

Aus 4 point (+1)
Jap 4 (0)
UAE 4 (-1)

The good thing is u17 World Cup is on every year now so we will have more chances to qualify given the spots available but it’s such a let down given the success of the older age group last month.

I’m sure these players will continue to develop when they go back to their clubs.

But this is a reason why they should bring back the NYL just to help the u17s prepare for these challenges like these as they don’t really get proper tests in youth NPL so better competition is needed locally.

I'm not an expert on these things, but I'm a bit worried not just about the result but the performance. For the last 10 years or so I thought I saw technical improvement regardless of the results. There were a lot of dodgy first touches across the two games, lack of 1v1, poor weight on passes. For the first time in a decade I felt this was technically weaker than the group at the last u17 tournament. I'd like to find some replays of both tournaments to double check

Feels like a regression given the decent level of the U20 etc but maybe there's a cohort who'll bloom later.

Yeah the result from the last u17 asian cup weren't great so the coach is probably a factor. Coach is in charge of selection too, eames is wearing the 6 which seems strange to me and might be a factor in our defensive fragility

Having said that I remember pretty much every u17s tournament thinking that I haven't seen aussies do the skills and first touches I was observing

First touch should be the first basic thing in football. I dont know why these kids couldnt do it properly. They should watch & learn how these Uzbe kids do their first touch.

So I’ve just read a story that the IOC have made changes to the football tournament in the Olympics for Los Angeles which is in 2028.

The women’s tournament will expand to 16 teams but for the men’s tournament it will decrease from 16 to now 12 teams, therefore for our perspective making it harder for the Olyroos to qualify given there will be less spots to qualify from.

Not ideal when trying to prepare for the Olympic program but maybe it could force the Fa to focus on 2032 Olympics or more focus on the u20 World Cup.

For the IOC either take football seriously especially the men’s program or just scrap the tournament entirely and introduce Futsal or beach soccer as a substitute and for FIFA they should look into bringing in a u23 World Cup equivalent of UEFA’s u21 championship as the men’s football tournament will probably become less important now.

I really wish we made the olympics regularly. At the moment the only time football is mainstream is the olympics and the world cup. If we regularly qualified for both, that is a gateway drug for neutral fans every other year

well we don't really look like scoring to be honest unless its a worldie and we aren't having a pop from distance very often

if you concede easy goals it is just really hard to be competitive

but, maloney will keep his job like vidmar did and who needs standards

Yeah what on earth even is that? I personally find Olympic football and outcast as it's not a FIFA thing but it's still enjoyable to make.

It's sort of a niche with the mixed teams that make it but cutting back to 12 teams makes it tacky.

The U20 WC is actually the biggest world cup and youth tournament aside from the proper one. Making that should be the goal.

Handy corner goal that. Vietnam lead UAE 1:0. Australia need to win and will advance on H2H.
