Japanese centre back slips chasing back a ball leaving it all free and runs into our speedsters path while getting up. Purely accidental but that could've been something.

Decent opportunity for Australia with a cut back in plenty of space but the low drive goes straight into the first man. Damn.

Australia scuff a shot on 6 yard box. Australia seem poised while Japan are a little shirt of ideas but their technical ability still has them cruising on the ball.

Australia have realised this game is essentially a world cup playoff.

GET IN! 2:1. Japan with a blind pass across the back and Anastasio intercepts, dribbles and turns and puts it away. What a turnaround but it's so precarious with a win being a must.

If UAE draw with Vietnam then 3 teams are on 4. Not sure how H2H works there? Each team beat another. Goes to GD I guess which would have Australia and UAE on negative 1 each. Then to goals scored? Bad cards for Australia.

3:1. Holy shit! Japan keeper stuffs on a corner and it bounces down and we slot it. What on earth is happening? We're playing like possessed!

This extra goal for now puts Australia in a much better H2H situation should UAE draw.

  1. If more than two teams are tied, and after applying all head-to-head criteria above, a subset of teams are still tied, all head-to-head criteria above are reapplied exclusively to this subset of teams;
  2. Goal difference in all group matches;
  3. Goals scored in all group matches;
  4. Penalty shoot-out if only two teams were tied and they met in the last round of the group;
  5. Disciplinary points (yellow card = 1 point, red card as a result of two yellow cards = 3 points, direct red card = 3 points, yellow card followed by direct red card = 4 points);
  6. Drawing of lots.

Akon has barely had a good moment on the ball but has completely changed the game by drawing defenders

Australia's 3rd goal is crucial as it's thrown out many possibilities. If UAE draw, they'll be on -1 GD while Australia are currently on 0. UAE reaching 0 would require a win, thus eliminating Vietnam, jumping Australia on points and Australia would then beat Japan on H2H.

Should Australia win 3:2 and UAE draw then it'll come down to GD amongst the 3 and Japan would be 2nd on +1. So Japan just need to lose by 1 should UAE draw to advance.

Fuck. Japan score. Made it look easy. Nervy minutes ahead given a UAE draw means elimination for Australia should my calculations be correct. Concentrate!

Vietnam lead UAE 1:0. Surely Vietnam are wasting time.

Oh man a good interception and Australia hit the side netting. Bloody hell.
