The Unofficial Australian Football Club Database/Pyramid

Alrighty - so I think this is pretty much done now (the spreadsheet/pyramid)



The "All Clubs" is the mastersheet list of clubs, which lists the state they are currently registered in, and then Region + Association (if applicable) and then will be adding a new column of League that each club is competing in (based off the structure tabs - more on that later), as well as whether they competed in the Australia Cup.

At the moment, 2024 season is complete. 2025 Season is up to date for the Australia Cup (as per @Brenton1986 's Australia Cup Fixtures thread) and the 2025 Leagues are currently updated as of @HappyGuus 's Oz Tables with the rest of the leagues to be added once associations start announcing fixtures, etc (I'm aware some have already, so will try update as much as I can)

Each state/member federation has their pyramid outlined in each tab of the spreadsheet.

Now that this is (almost) complete, I will start on the Victoria, QLD and NSW logos to add to the Google Drive, as they're the last parts of the puzzle.

I wonder if it’s worth, long term, trying to turn this whole club database into a wiki/website, with each club’s page containing:

Name (and name history)
Year founded
League history (where possible)
Aus Cup participation
Ground history (where possible)
Logo history (where possible)
Uniform history (at a basic level)

Don't the majority of clubs already have a wiki?
 
UPDATE 17/03/2025

Logos updated for NPL QLD, QPL1, QPL2, and QPL3 (QPL Regional to come) in the Google Drive - as well as some older logos for these divisions in the "Archive"

  • ACT / Capital Football
  • Northern NSW
  • NSW Regional
Means I found a few clubs I didn't have picked up before / new clubs as well.

Hey everyone - has been a while since I've been doing my thing with my database/cup entries/league status etc - have had a bit going on. Been going through Metro NSW today - here's where things may get a bit irritating (and why I'm glad I'm including the association name in league competitions) - This will include clubs moving across associations, and also a few new clubs. Going through Hills Football Association (Camden, Kellyville, that sort of area of Sydney), and this association alone has 2 new clubs, and I'm only up to the 3rd division...


EDIT: Sorry, I had this happen with a couple associations in Sydney, so got mixed up a bit.

1 new club in Hills Football (Kellyville, Castle Hill, etc area), and 2 new clubs in Macarthur Association (Camden, Oran Park, Macarthur area, etc)
 
NCB in cases such as mine NWS.
Last couple of seasons for 45’s up they have integrated with border association NSF due to growth and getting up to 10 club comps.
I suppose the ol codger leagues don’t matter but think in time more and more Associations will combine in certain age groups.

Yep have come across things like this.

Newcastle is essentially 3 associations (plus the 4 ‘regional’ areas north of Newcastle). But those 3 associations for the Newcastle area, below the NPL connected pyramid, have formed an “Interdistrict” league system, very much as you described.

Plus you also have cases such as my old league back in Griffith. What’s happened there is the Riverina branch of FNSW (one of the 3 Regional “branches” has 4 associations: Wagga, Griffith, Albury-Wodonga, and South West Slopes (basically everything else left between Griffith/Wagga and Canberra).

Now, Albury are technically part of both NSW and FFV, and enter in the Australia Cup as Victorian, so essentially they’re just Victorian in my structure here.

Because Wagga is essentially the centre of the rest of the associations, the Wagga first grade competition has essentially become an unofficial branchwide Riverina Premier League, with the major clubs from all 3 associations (except for Yoogali SC) taking part.

With a place like Sydney, I can see things like this happening as you’ve mentioned. In terms of a First Grade level of this, well… that’s why they should have kept the fourth tier in place back in 2019 or whenever it was they got rid of that.

They changed that 4th tier to make 3 16 club comps that makes sense.
Bigger and more games at the top levels
