Things we would like to see in season 25/26

Optimistic as it is but respect from the media and authorities, and they actually educate themselves about the sport because it’s too ignorant of them to do this and no wonder nothing changes.

Otherwise another suggestion would start in August as the off season is too long.
you might want to check who they employ in the media these days...

they employ children who specialise in social media and digital marketing. They don't know anything about anything other than getting clicks.

  • Incorporate controlled, officially sanctioned pyrotechnic displays to celebrate goals and enhance the matchday atmosphere.
  • Introduce a live DJ to energize the crowd throughout the game with prompts and music, similar to the atmosphere seen in basketball games (e.g., "Defense! Defense!").
  • Expand corporate partnerships by engaging major brands like McDonald’s, KFC, and Woolworths to support the league and bring their marketing expertise to fan engagement and matchday experiences.
  • Launch branded fan merchandise such as KFC bucket hats to create fun, recognizable symbols for supporters.
  • Focus on attracting well-known, relatable international players—such as those from the lower-tier English leagues with familiar names such as Smith, Johnson and Wilson—to help the league connect with a wider domestic audience and increase its mainstream appeal, and further ourselves away from the ethnic element.

Not every league in the world has a balanced season these days. Countries with smaller populations are going with splits these days. In Scotland for example, everyone plays each other 3 times, and then the league splits into two groups of six, playing each team one more time.
Yeah that Scottish style is a bit shite imo. Most of those matches after the split are pointless. If we can't have an even season of playing each team twice, then I'm fine with any arbitrary number of rounds up to 30 plus finals. Another good thing about having finals is it doesn't matter how many rounds we have, it allows for an uneven schedule.

Aside from a $500M/yr tv deal with SBS which funds three tiers of national pro-rel?

-Confirmation that Perry Park will be redeveloped would make me very happy.
-Bakries out and/or Roar replaced by Strikers/City/anyone with motivation to succeed.
-Barr redirects the millions he sends to the AFL for a Sydney team to play in the ACT and instead helps get Canberra up & running.
-And quietly, Western United moved up to Townsville where a brilliant stadium and loyal fanbase awaits them.

Promotion relegation
South Melbourne to get relegated
Work towards a buffer league between NPL and AC
Canberra United to get a men's team
Get a better transfer market

Probably on my own here but I think teh Unite Round has potential. It's massive for the NRL. If we got even a third of their crowds it'd be huge.
Really don’t need it Muz IF we had P/R incl derbies the crowds would be fine I’m sure.
That’s the draw our game needs to build on that isn’t happening but fabricated to date.
That shows there’s a need.

Im happy to have anything to extend the season and maybe get in a 3rd derby. Perhaps it fan be auctioned to state governments. Even if they pay 1 dollar haha

If you want to bring bodies and create an atmosphere, scrap the current Unite Round concept and instead have a Unite Round where you match up Aleague and invited/earned opposition to compete somehow (don't ask me how - unless it is a multi game competition you won't have a table or winner and no-one would support a potential player risk like that mid-season if it didn't count towards the season).

Everyone on here would surely like their team to match up against those South Melbourne bastards just for the hell of it.

Imagine a South Melbourne v Victory match up as an annual event. Then South Melbourne v Roar, then South Melbourne v Nix, then anyone else until their little blue and white legs fall off over the one weekend.

I am guessing that maybe the local appeal is not as great when you involve genuine community clubs from interstate - where the aleague clubs possibly have a more widespread following across the country. I could be wrong though.

If Aleague Unite Round was held here in Brisbane somewhere I wouldn't bother going to most games - just a few of the teams I enjoy watching.

But for a chance to see NPL legend clubs, or the top number of clubs in each region that has an aleague team, or something like that to take on their Aleague 'equivalent' clubs as we do in the Australia Cup - I would see as many games as I could get to over a weekend I think.

There is an untapped need and appeal for matches like that to showcase the two disparate streams of football we have and maybe start to put things in place to bring them together in some (any) form.

This is a concept not a practical suggestion. I just like the feel of it.

If they were to auction Unite Round off to state governments maybe have the APL also follow suit with the AFL and get games into regional centres like in Gather Round as well.

Sorry, i disagree, it is not a travelling circus, it's a football league, where only home and away matches matter.

The FFA cup should see games in regional centres.

in the end if they can get another revenue source they should at this stage...

The deal with Destination NSW was for 3 years, which is now over. Interesting to see if it gets renewed or if it gets shopped around to other states. Without the gov funding, it would be difficult to justify continuing with it, as on it's own would be a net loss.

This will be unpopular, but after having travelled to both Unite Rounds, I would be OK if Unite round continues as long as it was played in a new location.

I think it would work in Adelaide, and I think it could be an opportunity to try to revive football in SE QLD.

But would state governments in those states allocate the resources? I highly doubt it.

It's a tough one. Let's say NSW gov decided to extend the deal. Currently it's $4m per year. That money goes to the APL. However the side effect is that any interstate 'home' teams get reduced ticket sales for their 'home' game because the game is not at home and fans have demonstrated they are reluctant to travel for this round. With 5 NSW teams, that side effect can be reduced if the round is held in NSW, however if they sell it to another state then it's worse.
That being said, I'd be fine with it if the bulk of that $4m is distributed evenly direct to the clubs, or if they were to donate the lot to a worthy charity.

Great call on SE QLD.
