There arent any "H" sounds in the Greek alphabet as far as I know and I am a fluent Greek speaker.... the word in Greek is Ellas (sorry don't know how to type in Greek characters on this forum for ya)

So if you ALL KNOW then why even pretend engaging in a conversation? You've clearly made up your little mind what YOU think my club represents and thats all there will ever be to the matter in that closed off mind of yours... Going around the place telling people who they are are or are not... Disgraceful behaviour if you ask me. Lucky for all of us that racist mindset is dying off in this country and we can all move forward and celebrate our Australian-ness without worrying about what the bigots think.

Well, like I said, who gives a fuck what a foreigner thinks? MY passport, birth certificate, drivers license, medicare card, electoral roll entry etc etc all show that I am a proud Australian citizen ... do yours?

NOPE, as Ive mentioned many a time here I bought myself, my son and my dad a half and half Ellas and Australia scarf (the ONLY one I would ever own btw) and proudly sung both national anthems and cheered both squads on in a friendly match in front of a monster crowd. If you choose to not beleive me based on tour extensive knowledge of my character then .... give a fuck I suppose.
Fuck me, take a breath.

Serious question - I didn't know the H was silent. Is Heracles then pronounced Eracles? And Hera would be Era?

Mind you, when I pronounce the French name Barthes correctly to my students, they look at me as if I'm deranged.

thats spot on :) The H isnt exactly silent it just doesnt appear as a monophonic sound in Greek... The letter X (chi in the stupid US sorority parlance) is pronounced like the CH in Bach the composer for example....

Phonetic English pronunciation of Hercales and Hera would be

Iraklis
Ira

There are some good ones around. Kirabati is pronounced Kirabas. The wh you see in NZ Maori names is in fact a very soft sort of whooshing f sound, but it's a point of pride with the more reactionary populace to pronounce it as in when.

Not trying to piss you off, but I do use it to piss off Greek mates. In Spanish, the Greeks are rarely referred to as Greek (Griego - from Latin) but instead are referred to as the Helens, which of course means Hellenic in English.

Thanks for posting and great pick up.

If Nine finish up with both AFL n NRL, further they have Rugby....

It comes down too, do you get lost in the content, or matched with EPL n Champions league will rating go up.

Certainty with Nine they would demand we stay in summer whether or not a move to winter is even being considered.

On balance if we could get 10 to remember they broadcast Football not AFL my gut is to stay with 10

Ch 10 and Paramount have to pay more, There broke asses got a bargain deal for $200m over 5 years if the APL don't get at least a %30 increases in revenue then they have failed the clubs. I've spoken to a close source at the Nixs and they have said a deal was pretty much done already at the same rate its why there will be a strick cap next season and beyond as there's not enough money to go around. The clubs wanted $4.5m a season but that has been shafted.

Hopefully your contact is behind the times, because if Nine an hopefully DAZN chase as well the price may go up.

Personally I want 10 to act like a network that understands it's the Football broadcaster.... Maybe it's time they moved their sports department to Sydney to get away from the constant AFL support

Ch9 wont touch Aus football, just look at the ratings compared to the AFL/NRL Even Home and Away beats it.

SEVEN’S AFL: THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL Seven 1,571,000
THURSDAY NIGHT NRL LIVE Nine 1,401,000
HOME AND AWAY Seven 1,052,000
FOOTBALL: MATILDAS V SLOVENIA 10 829,00

PEPPA PIG ABC KIDS PM 73,000

What sports do channel 9 show in the AFL/NRL off-season? Aus Open, but I don't think that will class too hard and only a short tournament.

Looking back at the last Foxtel deal. $346m over six seasons, which worked out to be $5.16m per club per season. Note, this included W-League, Socceroos and Matildas as well. The final year of that deal was canned.

The P+ deal was $200 for five seasons. If we stay at 13 clubs, that's $3.17m per club per season. This excludes Socceroos and Matildas. Also, ViacomCBS purchased 2% of APL, which was about $8.4m based on what Silverlake purchased (33% of APL for $140m). FA received 10% of the first year distribution, I don't whether they take 10% every year after that as well. Also, the broadcaster later reduced the distributions after metrics weren't reached.

After all that, how much do we think Nine will chip in for A-League? They have EPL for the next three seasons, and you'd think they would renew that. Consider they were interested in A-League last bid, but it was a low-ball bid:

Nine, the publisher of this masthead, has also submitted a bid for the A-League and W-League involving streaming subsidiary Stan. However, sources indicate that the club-run Australian Professional Leagues - which is leading negotiations, having gained independence from Football Australia last year - favours Ten's proposal due to much stronger financial terms. Both would involve a free-to-air element.

And this was a scary fact I learnt tonight:
Filings with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission reveal the investment gives Silver Lake significant control over the future of professional soccer and the right to sell its A-Leagues’ stake back to APL at market value from 2029.

Even a modest increase in value of Silver Lake’s $140 million investment in the APL would require the APL to find hundreds of millions of dollars to buy out the US private equity giant. If the value of the investment increased by 40 per cent over the eight years, then APL would need to pay Silver Lake almost $200 million.

The terms of its investment also give Silver Lake preferential rights over A-Leagues clubs if the APL were to be liquidated, corporate documents show, which potentially could be triggered if it could not meet financial obligations.

Interesting, APL certainly dug themself a deep hole. Looks like they will be stuck in it for quite some time.

So do we think part of the reason for the 500k distribution is to pay back the silverlake money?

I can't see that. From what I understand there, APL are ok unless Silverlake want to sell it's share after 2029 (which would be sold to APL). If APL can't afford to buy back, they could be liquidated and Silverlake get first dibs on the clubs. Who knows what happens then? Keep APL running? Start another league? Run cap-in-hand to the Championship haha? Could be in for a world of hurt in five years... or it could be a saving grace killing off APL 😵
