7 wickets is a decent return for the match from the NSW great Test bowler, JH.

Another Test over in 3 days - just.

A decent all round effort from Webster too. 63 in second dig, 2 wickets and 2 catches in first WI innings. Not sure if he took any catches in second WI innings?
 
We had a good meet the players and coaches night this week at Cricket Tas.

CEO asked a few of us personally to pose questions from the floor for Tas pace bowler, Gabe Bell, who was a keynote speaker.

1. Q. We've watched you bowl a lot of Shield overs. You seem to have a very economical, smooth action that appears to take little out of you, compared to most other pace bowlers. Other economical pace bowlers like Trent Copeland and Joel Paris. Are you aware of this?

A. Yes. Was never going to be an express bowler, so worked on a smooth action to have control at all times. Hopes it looks like he is trying!

2. Q. Who are the most difficult players in the Shield not yet playing Test cricket?

A. Left handers in general. Teammate Jake Weatherald. Knows which balls to leave and play.

Current Test players - Usman. Both players really know where their off stump is and leave balls very well. Also, has diff with Travis Head.

Talking to him after the event:

-GB has never been considered for higher honours, despite taking a lot of Shield wickets. ATM Xavier Bartlett is popular with national selectors.

-Riley Meredith only bowls flat out in T20. Most of the time slows down for Shield.

-GB has nearly qualified as an engineer after 11 years of study. Good distraction to switch off from cricket.

Definitely wont mate, but he will have to suck it up. Josh has a fabulous West Indies based Test record. Something like @10 per wicket on his first Test tour in 2015, has started brilliantly in this tour a decade later.

I still think one grafting opener can help the balance of the side in tricky conditions. The rest of the team can attack.

I might be too old school not sold on Konstas at 1 and Green at 3.

Konstas at 3 and Green at 4 might be better.

Konstas and Green wouldn't need to change how they play.
 
Konstas definitely looks a work in progress

I said last year that I think he isn't used to the pace of fast bowlers you see at this level and that's still my impression but I didn't watch as much as I'd like here

at this stage any cricket against pace will do - even IPL would help develop him if he is good enough to get game time

county cricket spell could help too
 
I don't think Green will ever be a number 3. Would prefer Smith 3, Green 4, Head 5.
Konstas looks an opener and I think he just needs to click mentally and he's away. Needs to find the balance between Boxing day and blocking....not easy.

Shocking about Shamar if true.
 
Konstas could even bat 6 just for a few matches, as an attacking opening bat he could bat in most positions.

Throwing the bat early against high quality bowling with some assistance in the wicket is high risk.

Even if he wants to attack he needs to pick the balls to hit.

I suppose that we could keep him at opener against weaker teams, this test was a classic example of our bowlers winning the match.

Many of the good results recently have been the bowlers, sometimes with bat and ball. Smith and Head have been consistently good.

When Konstas does come good he should have a pretty good career from that point on. The risk is stacking up some very bad stats at the start of his career, being dropped, and spending years getting back into the side.
 
Just had a good look at a 35 min highlights reel of the whole Test on YouTube.

The pitch was doing a bit. Not sure the Windies top 4 did any better than the Aussies?

S Joseph certainly bowled well for the Windies.

Head, Webster and Carey's batting in the second dig were decisive in the outcome. In another YT video interviewing Head and Webster, who have batted well together in a few partnerships whilst being in the Test team together, after being opponents for years, suggest that their short left handed batter and tall right handed batter combo works well, because bowlers have to keep changing their line and length to both batters.

One problem for Aus, and it is a highlights reel, is the first slips catching of Usman. He missed a few. A strength is having Webster at second slip.

From the highlights, which doesn't depict an accurate picture sometimes, I think Usman's batting looks okay despite being age 39. He must have scored 40 odd on a lively pitch in the first innings.

Cummins and Hazlewood bowled superbly, as usual. Starc bowled some good balls - as usual, but a few loose ones as well. Webster took 2 wickets in the first dig and had a wicket awarded in the second, which was lost on DRS. Lyon still extracted a bit of spin too. A useful 5 prong attack, apart from nobody aged in their 20s.
