Balard, Irankunda and Toure all get into the top 5 don't they? Bottom line, we (those in charge, not this forum) should have a strong sense of who is on that list and go target them at an appropriate time. Toure, Balard, Robertson and Triantis should have been locked away given the huge number of Asian Cup and WC qualifiers we play these days. Granted we don't know what is going through the minds of these players, but outside of Volpato, Chipperfield and Skoko, most the others have been in Socceroos squads or camps.

Is balard a dual national. If FA cant get staff to contact them they need to at least get volunteers. There are plenty of passionate people that will help

Apologies, Irankunda is locked. Mo Toure isn't locked yet though or have I missed something? Balard has born here to French parents.

i think all of them could. would like to think skoko's chances are better with popa (mate of his dad's) in charge. volpato already verbally committed but was blocked by club.

Is this new info about Volpato? Or from a few years ago? My understanding is he wants to play for Italy not Australia. He turned down a WC place in 2022.
 
From memory. Arnold mentioned in a presser that there was soon to be some good news re Volpato. Then a report came out that he had agreed to choose Oz, and papers were about to be lodged to FIFA. Then the club heard about it and made him back out (and maybe Totti too.)

Additionally Arnold also made a side comment in another presser that Volpato was in tears re coming to the World Cup and was going backwards and forwards until the last moment. I could have some details wrong but that is my recollection.

I recall that. Theres been a mix of immaturity and pressure from competing interests with Volpato. It'd be good to check in again with him.
 
Despite clubs being the ones that develop and pay the player, you can rest assured they wouldn't do this to a Brazilian or Japanese player. If the club aren't exactly going to promote him right here and now then why not go away for the national team? At least feel wanted somewhere.

He seems to want to make it in Italy. I feel like this is the least forgiving place when it comes to Australians and international representation. Not sure if that is fair or not. You're probably right about a Brazilian. Having said that, a Brazilian going away for internationals is also going to be a top quality player they don't want to upset.

Wasn't Mourinho his manager at the time. I have memory of him speaking about the call up and he said it was ridiculous, a young player shouldn't go, needs to develop.

Mourinho has very little time for international football.

I can certainly see what José means. I find there is a balance of power where if the club is going to keep delaying earned opportunities then the player should call their bluff and go away with the national team. As I said it's the disregard towards Australian football despite the distance.

If the player has apparently earned a chance at the club but still isn't getting a shot, move on where opportunity exists. The issue in Italy is the massive bench size. There just aren't enough minutes to go around. Swallow your pride and go to Denmark and kill it for a year then you'll have Benelux and Germany enquiring.
 
Croatia will be doing everything to lure Segecic. Another that Poppa should have already secured. He's already lost Triantis who could have been one of our brightest prospects for the next decade. Honestly, he just takes way too long! I'm just a mug but I've been saying for months to secure these two. We've lost one and it'd be naive to think we're not at risk of losing the other. Not a peep from the media about Triantis slipping through our fingers due to mismanagement. People say they have to want to play for us. Look at the videos of him in his green and gold jersey... he did want to play for us. Ask yourself why that changed and who's at fault.
 
We're broken records on here. A year isn't always a long time so we should've found a squad slot for these lads when we had the final games in the preliminary stage and it would've all been sorted. The managers feared then having more players to please but once the better ones rise it makes for an easy justification.

There is no media. The people who attend for the national team are sport journalists who don't know anything. With the exception of maybe Rugari and lynch everyone on this board knows far more than the people attending.

I don't get the ego comments. If you told me Rudan was letting this get in the way, sure, he has form for unhinged behaviour. Are there stories I'm forgetting?
