With you there. It is a genuine ethical issue, but personally I don't believe"sportswashing" works. Seriously, does anyone's view of Saudi Arabia change because they own Newcastle United? And the ME World Cup? Did that change anyone's mind on Qatar? Did it increase the small number of...

    A league final

The final is a tasty match-up. I'm backing Victory to get over the line. That last semi was very smart coaching from Dilles. He pan-fried Corica like a fillet of fish. And then Corica whinged about the change of tactics and how they couldn't adjust! Pardon me, Steve, but that's actually your...

There has been a lot of prehatching counting of chickens going on with the WU buyout. A casual look at the history of the proposed buyers suggests that the deal isn't done until the money appears in the relevant bank account. The deal looks to be a some way from over the line at this point.

    Paramount Plus season 24/25

Mobland is standard genre stuff but very well done with a fantastic cast all chewing up the scenery.

    A-League Mens 24/25 - Semi Final

MCG, do you think there is any kind of long term strategy to build City support? For example, are they playing a long game with schools engagement?

    A-League Mens 24/25 - Semi Final

I predict, sadly, that the crowd for the WU/City game will set an all time low for a final and deliver yet another kick in the groin to public perception of the A League. The ratings will be statistically irrelevant. Man oh man, the Americans who bought into WU have their work cut out.

World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

TBH I don't think Segecic has done enough just yet for selection. Line ball call, but I can see why he's not there. For now. The harder thing to see, though, is why, if he's not, some of the others are. Borello being number one example.

You are lacking a functional central striker. Vergos hasn't worked; Bruno is too old. You need a Danny Alsopp per season 1. Someone fast and strong to create space for Arzani and Vekupillay.

Thing is, horse racing is a dying industry. The betting stats demonstrate the decline, officially 10 - 15% year. The tote has halved in the past 10 years. Lots of articles out there about this. So the racing figure is complete bullshit.

    General 2024/5 A League Men's thread

The core problem is that the A League was wildly undercapitalised from Day 1. Lowy got it off the ground through will power and contacts, but then, just as the comp was making headway, along came the debacle of the WC bid, which derailed everything.

And that is an excellent point! I was stuck in the Palmer/FFA time warp. Mind you, the ATO may still do it for them. The hearing is today, think.

Surely that won't happen while a buyout is in progress? It would be in noone's interests.
