A-League Mens 24/25 - Semi Final

I think the refs have let it go a bit more this season which is suiting teams like Auckland a bit more, not sure what led to this change but I wonder if Jon Moss the referee boss of the league has something to do with it?

Thats a penalty.

Absolute stone cold penalty on Vergos. I still can't work out why it wasn't given.

But we probably didn't deserve it. Auckland are just way too good. We just can't find a way through against them.

We need to be more direct and quick with our decision making. Face forward. I think too many trying for the extra touch or perfect chance. That goes from midfield forward but particularly the front 4. Velupillay and Arzani tried too much.

You are lacking a functional central striker. Vergos hasn't worked; Bruno is too old. You need a Danny Alsopp per season 1. Someone fast and strong to create space for Arzani and Vekupillay.

Yeah the whole front four was poor imo including Vergos. He hasn't been terrible for us but he's not quite the right fit either. I wonder if Yengi wants to return ... yeah i'm dreaming.

Auckland by far have the strongest team/squad.

From my understanding they have been allowed to spend a bit extra aboive the cap to be competitive in the first season.

Credit to the owner for actually spending cash, but it seems a bit unfair?

Auckland looked significantly better than Victory and I assume Victory would be close to expending the full cap?

From my understanding they have been allowed to spend a bit extra above the cap to be competitive in the first season.

This is how it has been for all expansion clubs. This is to offset the loyalty exemptions and cap banking that the existing clubs have.
Next season cap rules are very different, so I'd say Auckland will lose a few players in the off season.

City will be to good to lose and Auckland will dick Victory at home. Im expecting another 4-5k crowd at the City game, Auckland is looking to be a sellout.

christ, MCG's team can just park the bus with a 3nil aggregate head start.
Just score 1more it will be out of - still building ground clubs reach unless JA throws on a shirt up front but their defense is the prob haha
As for that southern pest MV, it will be the only time in my life I'd back a pack of southern wankas purely on the base's its just a 1goal lead and fark the kiwis more than anything :) for shits and giggles hopefully.
Tighten your defense ya mugs.

Yeah we were going to get cat A tickets for this but the occasion doesn't really call for it now.

hey the cheap seats are best anyway when bugger all crowds, all my times in the past going to SFC games with low crowds there is NO point spending on better seating, you near on move around anywhere that suits once people have taken up their spots and move into countless empties of choice.
Woud be even more to chosse from with your lot sorry to say.

I predict, sadly, that the crowd for the WU/City game will set an all time low for a final and deliver yet another kick in the groin to public perception of the A League. The ratings will be statistically irrelevant. Man oh man, the Americans who bought into WU have their work cut out.

MCG, do you think there is any kind of long term strategy to build City support? For example, are they playing a long game with schools engagement?

There will be more people at this :)

Sadly I don't think so the club has given up on getting fans. They do good work with city school with their football programs but there's such a difference between caring about the club and playing football.

The fans that do show up are very passionate if it helps but like other clubs we're making decisions that are putting people off.

I reckon if they change the home shirt and do a few things different we could see some more people but I think it's probably to late

I thought MV played the better football with the ball by some margin.

Auckland are more of an old style British team - big, physically strong players, who win a lot of body on body and aerial duels in 1v1s, good in free kicks where they score many goals from headers.

AC are excellent off the ball as a team unit, nearly always maintaining compact defensive shape when the other team has the ball - and for long periods. They had pace down the flanks in accelerated attacks, but generally are a poor example of the best football team in Aus in terms of style. They are not a NC style team - aesthetically.

I've seen them play a lot this season.

The fact that MV, a far better footballing team with the ball, lost, is not good for football in Aus.

It probably didn't help that Miranda and Hamel, late in the game, were injured.

Both Melb City and Western played some lovely football in the semi.

Just can't work out why so few Geelong residents are supporting their team?

There are many good young players in both teams.
