Can we also get numbers of teams and if they are the biggest numbers per state? I feel this is extremely important for clubs in the regions.

Not the Australia Cup entrant numbers, but I think a good starting point for us to see how many clubs have entered - this is the amount of clubs we have by state/etc

APL - 12
NSW - 556
VIC - 296
QLD - 199
SA - 165
NNSW - 177
WA - 163
TAS - 31
ACT - 37
NT - 17

Granted, this does count some junior only/women’s only clubs, and I manually counted from my spreadsheet.

The most entrants SA had was 54 in 2019 (about 1 in 3 of all SA amateur clubs and above). This year they had 52. COVID halted progress, but that's probably a similar story all over.

Love this. Would like to use this like a members/attendance tracker. Also would love to see regional teams in WA, SA, NT and Vic.

When I can be bothered, I can break these numbers down into regions.
Unless someone wants to do the work for me based off the spreadsheet in the Pyramid thread. I’ve broken them up, just not in a counting mood right now lol

Based on count from Wikipedia format summary:

NSW - 159
VIC - 219
QLD - 126
SA - 52
NNSW - 70
WA - 69
TAS - 20
ACT - 20
NT - 12

747 + APL - 12

Based off my total count of 2024 clubs in Australia (1653) , this means 45.8% of Australian clubs entered the 2024 Australia Cup
It would be great to get it over 50% this upcoming year. Areas like regional WA are surely missing out. I know the border regions of NSW and Vic are also missing out. People need to get their clubs involved and engaged.

Can we make it a mission?

Using those numbers (and my total numbers)

NSW - 159/556 - 28.6%
VIC - 219/296 - 74.0%
QLD - 126/199 - 63.3%
SA - 52/165 - 31.5%
NNSW - 70/177 - 39.5%
WA - 69/163 - 42.3%
TAS - 20/31 - 64.5%
ACT - 20/37 - 54.1%
NT - 12/17 - 70.6%

Would love to do by region, but would mean breaking down the map for NPL/State leagues, etc (yes, will be mostly metro, but I do know there are some regional teams that compete in metro/state/NPL leagues - this includes Yoogali and Wagga in ACT, La Fiamma in Geraldton WA, Northern Demons in SA to name a few)

Probably should include New Zealand, since I’m counting Canberra United as an APL club, this now brings the APL total to 14, and the total clubs to 1655.

Above is the breakdown by region I’ve done so far - noting I haven’t gone through the following numbers wise. (which are mostly metro though).
  • WA NPL, State, Metropolitan, and Amateur leagues
  • SA NPL, State, Amateur, and Collegiate leagues
  • NNSW NPL, Zone Leagues, North Coast Premier League, Northern Inland Premier League
  • QLD NPL and QPL 1 and 2
  • VIC NPL, VPL, State, and Metropolitan leagues
  • NSW NPL, League 1 and 2
Those with asterisks are regions that are sub regions that named the same as the main region, so have included in that for now, but haven’t formally split the top league up.

APL clubs have been included in what I’ve determined as their association (all 3 Melbourne teams as Metro, Mariners in Central Coast, Wanderers in Granville, Sydney in Eastern Suburbs, everywhere else is pretty straight forward)

No way should we include the New Zealand teams. We need to promote our own regional clubs and adding unnecessary costs to the tournament will not help.

This is a great body of work.
