Might be handy to have this thread as a "jumping off point" for comparison with next years NST... good way to measure interest in the comps and if any uptake .

Really Healthy crowd at Somers St for opening night, I wasnt there but looked like 1200-1500? While watching the stream at one stage there seemed to be 2700 live viewers, and as of 12 hours after the match it has received 15K views.....:love::love:

Not bad for state league football.

That's excellent stuff. I really hope we see more/any/all logging of attendances this year. We need real data now that the NST is within touch.

I've actually done a comparison of the NPL youtube ratings for last season... such a damn data nerd haha. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Love it... Just a thought I had while watching the game last night, jumped back into the stream after half time and noticed there were 2700 live viewers and thought :'hats pretty high for a Thursday night NPL match" .... could see some really good number as interest rises ahead of NST....

So I've found my spreadsheet. It's incomplete, not sure why I didn't come back to it. But the numbers for Victoria and SA are complete, NSW and Qld about two-thirds complete, and Tassie about half the season done. I think the other feds weren't on youtube, except NT but I didn't start on that.

These are the 2024 regular season youtube streaming averages (as of about 5 months ago). South and NPL Victoria in general smashing it:

over here in the W.A its hard to get a real number but the big npl teams will pull between 1500ish everyone else around 500-1000

the difference here is that most of our games are always Saturday at 3:00pm or 5:00 , we don't usually do what the east does as have them all weekend which does affect number sometimes being all the same time

if only those "youtube views" transcended into the stands, NPL football would be alot better for it.

1000-1500 is still pretty healthy base to grow from...

I agree.. I am of the opinion that having the NPL so easily accessible on youtube really makes the attendance suffer especially come full winter and those cold, hard, lonely slogs to the outer suburbs on a Friday night....

I was just pleasantly surprised that there where nearly 3 thousand other people watching the same Australian football game I was last night.....

Yeah I've heard it's a growing issue, more people staying home now to watch on youtube instead of attending. It's such a trade-off, open up to the world, but maybe less poeple in the stands 😐
i know people who lived 1km from the stadium and would rather stay home and watch it on TV whilst doing a BBQ. Only Clubs suffer because of it.

I’d make youtube NPL only for replays and highlights, and not live. Force people back to the stadiums.

I see what you are getting at but would they come to the game or give up all together???

At least if it is easy to watch it drives some interest in the competition and makes some of these fans perhaps interested in attending the BIG matches ... I dont have any answers, I just dont think making the matches locked away behind a paywall like the Aleague helps anything.

I agree with Mono's response following, imo considering NPL has been in the dark for so long and never given any uplift generally to date but the regulars turning up I'm not surprised many watch "live" feeds, the comp needs this NST "spark" and in time people will consider going back to the grounds - well thats my take - get this Championship out of the way, its looking like we're going to get to 16 NST Clubs get the proper H/A going can only HOPE things improve attendance wise......
Consider 1 fam such as mine, 2 sons plus mate/s of theirs - we could at times depending the fixtures be 6/7+.
Surely there are many like us here there everywhere.

What percentage watching were from south east asia? 80%?

NPL needs to cash in on these gambling companies.

Man I didn't realize it's so close to the a league. (Not that I want to start a war) But I can definitely see the points
wait till the NST gets up and running and has (I hope) 2-3 seasons of growth under its belt..... The flow on effect to all linked leagues below should be great... Your local Bentleigh or Oakleigh or whatever you end up choosing will be buzzing with anticipation of climbing the ladder soon... get stuck in mate... Follow the Aleague in summer by all means but the "grassroots" need syou more.

Fair enough.

If you get games at suburban grounds with reasonable ticket prices and stream the games on YouTube it's a lot simpler. Hmm very interesting
