2026 UEFA WC Qualification

Netherlands defeated Finland 2-0 away in their World Cup qualifying group G match. The other group K match between Albania and Serbia finished scoreless.

This format having the pot 1 teams play pot 2 having then played 1 and 3 games respectively can show a 9 point lead if pot 2 has come out flying. This is the case for Norway. A shame Austria and Netherlands won just to make it more exciting for the neutral.

Bosnia beating San Marino just 1:0 like England Andorra. As they say, no one remembers qualification results if one. Still, thin margins here and crucial 3 points.

A shame austria and Netherlands won?

The number of arrogant Germans about Uzbekistan qualifying does my head in. My response is this comes from a bunch who crashed out of the last 2 group stages being lethargic and disinterested in the opportunity.

Uzbekistan deserve it and had gone very close before.

No one will remember it but the England 1:0 win over Andorra is something irregular as is the BH 1:0 win over San Marino. We may see minnows chip away at points. Iceland beating Scotland makes for interesting prospects in their groups too.

Packed calendar means the 4 team groups haven't even started yet. Not the same where the big pack all played and all the groups could be followed evenly at once. These 4 team groups seem a foregone conclusion.

Again, I am advocating for (politely) fucking off the Nations League and just doing 8 groups of 6/7

I think we're starting to learn how the Nations League packs the schedule. The issue is how friendlies get disrespected. Practice is important for national teams.

It certainly dents the excitment of qualifications for tournaments. Maybe the qualifications should act as a Nations League style thing in points. If you just miss out on Euros then it gives you a WC Playoff higher rank safety net.

Wales came back from 3:0 against Belgium to lose 4:3. A shame that as it would've really seen North Macedonia ahead.

Croatia destroyed Czech Republic and will eventually overtake them.

Italy get their 2:0 win over Moldova while Norway win a crucial 1:0 in Tallinn.

The maths on that group for Italy is dire.
If Norway manage to draw all four of their last 4 games, a win in every other game for Italy will mean they only get the top spot on the last matchday (by 3 points), so Italy really cannot afford to drop any points for the remainder of this campaign (and hope Norway do).

Six UEFA World Cup qualifying matches underway, all in the second half. Austria leading San Marino 4-0, Finland 2-1 up against Poland, Netherlands leading Malta 4-0, Serbia 3-0 up against Andorra, Romania leading Cyprus 2-0 and Latvia v Albania locked at 1-1.

England lose a home friendly 3:1 to Senegal. When will they learn the players don't care and want holiday? Tuchel under fire still.

Finland beat Poland to make their group exciting but wish they'd also beaten Lithuania. Romania in a hole. Albania draw with Latvia makes it extra comfortable for England-

Netherlands thrashed Malta 8-0 in their World Cup qualifying group G match. Austria defeat the lowest-ranked FIFA team San Marino 4-0 away. Finland 2-1 winners over Poland. Serbia win 3-0 against Andorra.

Romania third in their group after a 2-0 win over Cyprus but their next qualifier in September is the return leg against Cyprus so should be winnable for them.
