Newcastle parking a huge bus at the moment against a relentless Melbourne City to grimly hang on to their one nil lead.

Sign Up Now!The teams take ages to get into the speed of things when they get started, not only we should have a longer season by the off season need to shorter too.Quick thought during the lighening break - the last few games have been really high quality. I watch a lot of aussies abroad and at the end of the a league season I don't feel like there is much difference between the a league and the weaker divisions in the 2nd tier of europe - Austria, denmark, norway, scotland, switzerland, yet at the start of the season it is well below even league 1. It makes me wonder how much the long off season is killing our ability to improve.....
Yes they did. And then through lack of fan engagement the fans keep drifting off. Can’t remember that far back, but did City lose many fans when they changed from Heart?
I'm sorry I don't that's true https://www.transfermarkt.com/melbourne-city-fc/besucherzahlenentwicklung/verein/25580Yes they did. And then through lack of fan engagement the fans keep drifting off.
Yeah it's a bit of a misinformed notion about the City crowds. I'll post my chart later but I'm pretty sure crowds actually went up when they switched to City. The sharp decline came later when the colours changed from red to blue.I'm sorry I don't that's true https://www.transfermarkt.com/melbourne-city-fc/besucherzahlenentwicklung/verein/25580
We were averaging 10k during city days with mooy etc more than heart

Please don't use COVID as a excuse the club has made many mistakes to lose people's interestThat's not really true at all. Crowds picked up after CFG took over. This was likely due to great on pitch results and an abundance of free tickets. Numbers only really dropped off after Covid. However, the overall average is pretty much the same as it's always been. Their average is on par or better than most other A-League clubs. They get similar averages to clubs like Glory, Roar, AU and Nix.
Melbourne Heart
Overall average: 8,938
- 10/11 - 8,312
- 11/12 - 9,082
- 12/13 - 8,560
- 13/14 - 9,799
Melbourne City
Overall average: 8,380 (8,636 excluding covid season)
- 14/15 - 10,374
- 15/16 - 11,047
- 16/17 - 10,573
- 17/18 - 9,745
- 18/19 - 8,133
- 19/20 - 8,310
- 20/21 - 5,822 (Covid Season)
- 21/22 - 6,530
- 22/23 - 6,481
- 23/24 - 8,488
- 24/25 - 6,686 (to date)
Not an excuse. Just a point in which crowds dropped off for a reason outside of the clubs control. In that same 20/21 season Victory had pretty much the same average as City (5,823). Difference is that MV crowds bounced back the following season a little better than City, but still not great. I don't think any club has managed to return to pre-Covid averages. Maybe only Adelaide. Please don't use COVID as a excuse the club has made many mistakes to lose people's interest
The crowd looked far smaller than 2000 (at least from the highlights) last night and although it was mid week and alarming weather, that is a pretty poor turn out....Heart crowds were climbing from the start, then exploded when City took over. It wasn't until City's fourth season that they began to plummet, exactly when the colours changed. Home crowds minus derbies:

Sorry for the small chart size, it seems to be automatically resizing. I've put last nights match as 2,000 to show how dire it is now. Could've been even less!
Problem with City is that they've been relatively successful on the field over the past 5-8 years yet there crowds keep dropping. Not an excuse.
