A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 23 (+Rd 14)

Melb City played well to win two games but the Jets got some luck and some great goal keeping to keep their season alive.

Sometimes the luck goes your way and for the Jets they had that and some, by no point saying this if they can’t back it up again and win against Western United who can cut through teams like Melb City did tonight they got to keep it going
Yep Western United aren’t playing around!

So this game drops the Jets out of contention for the finals. Just leaves Macarthur and Sydney the only ones that may upset the current incumbents. Realistically though even Macarthur are drawing a long bow.
I see they play Jets, Roar and Mariners before ending with Victory and WSW. 9 points from the first 3 games would shake the table up.

Mariners gave a much improved effort against the league leaders. In the second half for long periods they looked the better team.

Come finals time Auckland might find the pressure will really test them especially as teams such as WUN,WSW and SFC are striking form at the right time. Also MC and MV will give them a hard time.

Segecic scoring for Sydney fc but taken off at half time, I don’t think he’s going to stay with the Sky blues next season based of that.
I thought him scoring and making the 'call me' gesture, followed up by being a bit too showy and losing the ball over the sideline when passing options were available may have lead to a little managerial restraint. Just my passing thought on it at the time - confidence is necessary but entitlement that isn't backed up by a solid all round effort can be asking for a reality check to help regain focus on the team game.

Even then taking him off at half time is probably not the best idea especially if you trying to convince him to stay on for next season.

Cant believe Nixs got the draw, really though SFC would dick us badly and they almost did with the chances they had. Like CCM we are out of contention for a top 6 finish but i hope we make it hard for the sides wanting to stay up there.

Biggest cop out these type of comments.

Derbies have larger than regular attendances all over the world, in any sport.

In that case, we should take out mid week games/games where it there is torrential downpour etc from averages and so on....

No, just another approach to analysis.

It is important to know how the league is faring in non-derby games, as an indicator of general sustainability. In case of City, the figures are particularly misleading with derby games because of the distortion produced by the high numbers of MV supporter attendees.

All that matters in the end is whether or not clubs can pay their bills.

Bit of a prick move by the coach. He's gone next season anyway. Last nights result is unsurprising, farcical playing football in those sorts of conditions.

Gee the Jets have really dropped the ball this match, Think they might get cream pied here.
They were rooted, 3 games in 7 days and they walk out to 37 degrees. They were back to the walls defending Wednesday night as well, they just had no legs. Watching live, the distinction in their energy levels from previous weeks was significant. In saying that, Stanton probably should have read it better and got fresh legs on earlier (which, when they came on, changed things quite a bit).

I am supportive of the A-League playing over the summer, it makes commercial sense, but you have to accept some flexibility in kick-off times on such occasions. For the players, and as a product for the fans, it is just garbage otherwise. The pace of play was excruciatingly slow, Elder couldn't be bothered trying to hurry it up nor could the Jets. If you have to stop every 15 mins, there is an issue.

Great comeback from Wanderers.Kraev and Borrello played their hearts out and Milanovic and Antosson are so good.Victory aren't a good second half side .This was very apparent tonight when Arzani went off-he was very good in the first half as was Piscopo.
Also Gersbach who replaced Clisby at LB in the second half had a very good game.He is still young enough to come into Socceroo calculations up the track

Ryan Teague did not have a good game -his defending was sub par.The much vaunted Mitch Langerak also was very average.
As much as I like Teague, there's no way he should be in the Socceroos squad ahead of Ballard - killing it in the Netherlands, week in week out.

Grazor read his play and position analysis and the result was that a higher level opponent would see a lot of ball steals off him. While true, perhaps AFC opponents aren't always better than an A league side.

He's got great potential though. Progress this window is Leckie and Duke not there. I'd take Arzani on one leg over a prime Leckie. The movements he does creates a lot of space.
Milanovic is better than Velupillay & should be there. Same as Botic. It's just Poppa playing his boys

I'm not sticking up for poppa but he said balard isn't in the squad because of the type of midfielder he is and his unlucky
