A-League Mens 24/25 - Semi Final

Terrific games in both second stage semis!

Delighted Vic beat Auck away. I think pure football is the winner.

Auck have had a superb, disciplined defence in Ball Possession Opposition. The distancing between and within the lines has been very good.

Auck have won heaps of 1v1s in body on body duels, dominating aerial duels at both ends of the pitch in both pen boxes, scoring most goals in league from set pieces, have had fast wide players to launch effective counterattacks. Auck have also been good at last line defending.

It has frustrated me that better aesthetic teams like Vic, City and Western haven't been able to break down their defence better.

However, Vic winning is a triumph for technicians on the ball - Arzani, Valadon, Villupillay, Machach, Teague, Santos, Bos, Bruno, et al.

Bruno's goal was exquisite! Not sure who passed to Arzani, but his feint and receive and quick lay off to Valadon ( in Zone 14) in a tight defence, with Jordi V's killer diagonal pass to the brilliant swivel receive and shot from the scorer, is what we need to see more of in Aus football.

Pleased to see how well a fit Tilio is playing for City.

I take my hat off to Aloisi coaching such a young Western team to play so well. They have been playing a 4-4-2 flat midfield, or bowl shaped midfield in possession with twin strikers.

Bozinovski, Thurgate, Botic, Grimaldi, Walatee, Leonard ( if he keeps improving at his current rate will be best Socceroo CB ever), have been terrific footballers and made great strides this season.

To demonstrate how much the AL has improved technically, Donachie, a very good AL CB of the past, really struggled at times to distribute the ball as well as his younger Western Aussie teammates.

Surely, Thurgate and Botic have to be in Socceroo discussions?

Vidmar has also done good work with younger players at City with so many seniors being injury riddled.

I went into Saturday night with zero expectation. But we started really well and probably should have scored early.

I said at half time we probably needed an ounce of luck and we got that with the wicked deflection for Zizou’s goal.

Bruno’s goal was class. Not sure if Vergos would have finished that. I’ve been critical of Bruno for not being able to get the job done in big games (he went missing in last years finals), but now he has one last chance at winning that elusive toilet seat against his old mob.

As for Corica complaining about that disallowed goal that was clearly out, I reckon it was a deliberate deflection after getting spanked tactically by a first year coach.

I thought the ref was harsh on Vic in the first half. Arzani and Machach were getting hacked with no sanctions, then when Arz reciprocated, he was carded.

Muz for ref in the GF!

I think Corica was frustrated with the match scenario being beaten at home.

That was a brilliant Bruno finish! So were the two lead up passes from Jordi V and Arzani.

Very good turnaround from Victory, the improvement overall from them from the 1st to the 2nd Leg was night and day.

Auckland still the Champions though. ( first past the post FTW )
