Apia to get cash injections.

meet the Holman board/suits - the Prez haha

TR was always going to gain a strong backer for the years ahead, West's been a partner for decades and the Leichardt link naturally.
I don't know this ends up for the better ahead but we all will wait and see, main thing is the $$ backing showing the many negative people about the ol clubs there is backers out there !

“We’re proud to join forces with Wests Ashfield in this exciting new chapter,” said Tony Raciti, president and chairman of APIA Leichhardt.

“This partnership unites two long-standing clubs with deep roots in the community and marks a significant milestone as we prepare for the inaugural Australian Championship. Competing as Wests APIA FC reflects both our rich heritage and shared vision for the future.
“Wests Ashfield have been the club’s major sponsor in the NPL space for over 3 decades; however this incredibly significant investment for the Championship competition truly is game changing. This partnership with Wests Ashfield will elevate APIA Leichhardt FC from a significant contributor in the Australian footballing landscape into an unstoppable force into the future.”

Thoughts on the name? Would you personally have preferred “APIA tigers”? I take it members and fans weren’t consulted/given a say in the process/branding

Absolutely prefer our regular name but thats me.
TR and Board obviosuly make that call for the Championship hence they probably wouldn't have the backing.

Happenned some time back Glenardo - my son played Jnrs for a couple years with them and Tigers was used.

By 1992 the APIA Leichhardt was overwhelmed by financial difficulties. The club was somewhat restructured and forthwith played on state level with the moniker “Tigers.”
I saw no inkling of the name change and it was just put on our insta x mins ago.

Sell out.

This is just my personal opinion and maybe it’s overly harsh, but this is the sort of thing I’ve always found off putting re APIA as someone with a “shared heritage”. The constant willingness to completely rebrand, rename, move home venues etc at a whim. Within the last 20 years They’ve been APIA Leichhardt, APIA Leichhardt tigers, Sydney tigers, APIA Leichhardt tigers, APIA Leichhardt, then flirting with the idea of renaming themselves “inner west tigers”, then now “wests APIA”. Back and forth between Leichhardt oval and lambert park, not by necessity like Sydney olympic who don’t own a ground, but of their own free will.

We’re not talking about updates to the crest or whatever, you’re talking about major rebrandings. For historic clubs, consistency is key and is the selling point. That’s not to say clubs can’t be refreshed or dynamic and evolve over time, but there are ways of doing it. Renaming the club should be considered very carefully and multiple parties consulted and it should be done very rarely if ever. I know in the NSL era these sorts of things happened, but that was different as it was done under duress from the people running the game

But hey, again, that’s just me. Maybe I’m overly OCD about this sort of thing

I can see your point - but my first NSL club was Western Suburbs (lived about half a mile away) - seems almost like full circle to me.
