Maybe. If you can't think quick and make good decisions your technique isn't going to help much.
I think arsenal wenger listed 4 parts of a players game, mental physical technical and off the ball (or was the fourth category defense)?

I suspect the most technically gifted player in most countries probably doesn't play for their country. Cricket is similar. Steve smith steve waugh and pointing are technically decent without standing out, yet are all time greats

Mcgree and Goodwin are a lock but poppa likes to rotate and with mabil, Boyle and hrustic out of form the door is ajar for that right inside forward position

We need to try. The bigger question is if he wants to play for Australia. From what I've read he wants to represent Switzerland. But we need to get in and make him make his choice.
He apparently applied for an Oz passport and got one in Jan which sounds promising?

It'll get Grazor talking (which I like) but Holman appeared to have no football brain on the surface but the deeper analysis showed that there was something there and he had ability too.
Off the ball quality is very subtle and usually takes watching the player a lot to notice, but u can make the big 5 on off the ball ability alone. I find I have to watch a player a lot to notice how good they are at closing passing lanes in defence or opening them in possession. But then the more subtle stuff is if they are good at dummy runs to create space for others etc

Holman might have been the best off the ball I have ever seen

He was also able to provide deck balls into the box for viduka in the brief time they played together. Most national teams wouldn't find that skill hard, but for some reason despite being stacked with big 5 players he was the only one of our players that could. If u watch replays of roos games where they play together viduka shows glimpses of his class (well more than normal) poor guy was maybe even better than kewell but really starved of service for the nt

Genuinely not trying to be argumentative or difficult, it is interesting on peoples perceptions of what 'technique' actually is.

I've always really liked this definition of technique = 'the mechanical part of art'.

The traditional concept of technique seems to have a lot of subjective parameters where for me it's more about the 'style' or 'way' that the player plays.

The fact that two people may or may not be able to agree or disagree whether or not someone has a 'good' or 'bad' technique is problematic to the entire concept.
Mechanical part of the art isn't a bad short hand, but would still render jedi as technically poor as Irvine imo

Holman is one of the most unfairly maligned NT players imo. I think he suffered from being on the shoulder/just after the GG. Was judged really critically.

You know if farrell gets and stays fit he could compliment bos. Bos prefers outside runs and shots from range, farrel is better at inside runs

I've felt that Bos could and maybe should be tried at LW for Australia. He causes a lot of issues for defences. The jig and outside foot cross against Argentina and that cross against South Korea are areas where a bit of space or lack thereof means he can sort out a solution. In turn Farrell can play LWB.

Yes but wasnt the same player now sadly.

Bahrain first game and sub on in indonesia away game

Maybe can defend but zero creativity other than sideway and backward pass.

Needs a fresh environment

The only aussie in recent times to improve in Scotland is baccus, and even then I wonder if he improves quicker elsewhere. Strain might have improved too, not sure
