Aussies abroad 🌍🦘

Elder starting.
In a back 5, so wing back. Elder and Strain are both playing wing backs for their clubs. I don't understand why they aren't being selected when we're fairly weak in those areas, particularly on the right.

Strain's been injured for a long time. May well be picked next round.

Both have been criminally underused but small injuries every single window haven't helped. Elder had an interview a few years ago with Adam Peacock and came across as very well spoken and captain, leadership material. Ship has sailed.

Strain and Luongo were both available for selection last window and weren't selected. They were back from injury but playing or fit for selection.
Strain was only just back. Probably didn't figure in selection discussions but ought to going forward (if uninjured).

Mind you, Popa's selections are so bad he'd probably pick me ahead of Strain.

Strain had 2 games from memory.

Yengi was also just back from injury, while Toure was in form and not selected, so there's inconsistency in Popovic's approach

Not really an Aussie Abroad but maybe useful for measuring the quality of the A-League, Oskar Zawada with 5 goals in 14 in the Eredivise this season for the bottom side.

Richard Van Der Venne also in the same side.

I suspect that Popovic's approach is to fix the defense first. Depending on injuries (and availability) I think he has settled for a starting back four of Geria, Souttar, Burgess and Bos. Depth is Behich (although unlikely to figure for the actual world cup given his age) and ???. Hence the forward line is all over the place and the middle is lack lustre. Although being a national coach, he should be able to do the work for every position. Does he have a philosophy at all?

Yeah I think you're right. I was expecting a bit more from the second window tbh. It was identical to the first with no progress offensively. I'm worried this is what we'll get now.

Iredale and his partner have a channel. Mix of football and personal. Honestly, this is what someone like Teague needed when there was absolutely silence in Portugal.

Some of our players just have scarce info and we don't know what on earth they're up to football wise.
