Honestly hope that it is good riddance to O'Neill when it comes to the NT. He's just so plain as a footballer in your engine room, and does he regularly find the courage to actually take the game on??

He would seem an odd captain, especially as an overseas import. Obviously never shared a dressing room with him, but there has to be some reason why Liege are content to see him go....probably a bit meh like us.

I genuinely believe ANY of our central midfield options would do be a better selection when paired with Irvine. He is clearly an intelligent, tactical aware, disciplined professional footballer that comes to work and does a job, BUT does he express the qualities that we need to take on the best in the world?!? I don't think so.

Wish the bloke well regardless though.
A more concentrated watch of his national team games shows he toes a good line with his positioning and press. I agree, unlikely to be a world beater but his Ecuador debut was something else.

I think we should always strive to have the better allrounder so someone defensively sound but can thread a forward pass. O'Neill is too comfortable to just pass sideways which Irvine was too until recently.

He's had some good crosses into the box. Triantis offers that extra aerial threat while Balard has the bigger engine and likes to linger for goal opportunities.

Baccus is one who's dropped off and I'm glad of it as he had become way too complacent being an Arnold favourite. Yazbek has better technical ability.

Presuming Irvine will always be selected (for the foreseeable), I'd love to Balard (#8) and Triantis (#6) behind him. That would be a very solid defence with no little threat going forward.

Metcalfe 2nd yellow in added time for nudging the ball away after a foul. A crucial point for St Pauli away to Bremen. That's draws against Leverkusen and Bremen. Bodes well.
Unselfish play but means missing a weak when we need him to return to form

The red was interesting. Last man foul. I couldn't tell if it was a missed trap (from Genreau) or a wayward pass (or both) that played the forward in. The defence was all forward pushing for a win.

Really good goal smashing it past the keeper near post.

T. Yengi with a goal in a 3-0 win in the Scottish Championship. They’ve closed the gap on Falkirk and now it’s just goal difference heading into the final game of the season. It’s going to be a big day to determine the automatic promotion place.
The Livi manager seems to trust a winning starting eleven and Tete seems to be a bit out of favour at the moment for a starting spot.

Vancouver is sitting on top of the MLS table. It's pretty impressive that Bovalina cracked the 11. I wonder if he can keep his spot.
the time zone is a write off so I don't get to watch it

but the pfa report suggests that the quality is halfway league 1 and the eredivisie/jupiler league

it is a pretty decent method based on transfers and how players who transfer perform. So it is probably similar to denmark/austria and slightly ahead of scotland/norway. So if he keeps a spot for the top team that should be taken seriously

Strongly disagree, ODW.

O'N is pretty decent on and off the ball. He might not cover as much ground as some, but I think he has done well for the Socceroos as a twin DM.

I've read that his club were cash strapped and sold a quite a few players to put the books into the black.

For me it's the constant dragging out of getting to see our most in form players playing for the national team. Transition takes time and it's hard to get correct. When it doesn't work, it becomes very frustrating. I think we'd all love to see a few games with Balard, Triantis, Robertson and Toure. The Lebanon/ Palestine window was an opportunity missed but then we debate it as a poor yardstick.

It's interesting to note O'Neill dodged Japan and England through injury or non selection so we haven't seen him against a top opponent. He and Baccus are on the fading side for the national team. Hopefully Popovic does bring in Triantis and Balard.
