great white A-league hope Josh the midget Nisbet relegated from the SPL overnight
For those who have actually watched him play this season... by far the best player in a dreadful team.

Such a shame poor old Nizz has to accept whatever he can get in Europe. Put him with players on his wavelength and he's a superstar.

I've watched him play, why are you excluding my opinion? He's in a team that matches his level and hasn't stood out in any game I've seen. He's too small to be a serious footballer at any decent level.

So by your logic there are no serious footballers in the A League, where Nizz won the Johnny Warren medal for best player in the league just 12 months ago.

For those who lurk on OS fan forums (like me) you'll find that Nizz is one of only three RC players to emerge with any credit from the fans this season. They're resigned to losing him but the reality is - if he struggled to get a Euro team before he'll struggle just as badly to get a transfer from a relegated team. I'd love to have him back at the Mariners but I'd be sad for him if his only choice was a return to the AL.

Surprised nobody mentioned irakunda this morning.

Grasshopper won their relegation first leg and Nestor played about 25
4-0 is a big result too. It’ll be hard for the opposition to turn that around. It’s good experience for him to play these high stakes games. I’d imagine he’ll get a bit more game time next game. With a big lead and away from home, they’ll likely sit a bit deeper and try to hit on the counter. He’d be a handy weapon to get in behind a desperate home attack. It looks like he didn’t get much of the ball when on today. His stats say he had 1/3 successful passes and a handful of dribbles and duels. So that isn’t heaps for 30 min of game time. I have found it interesting comparing some of Grasshopper’s matches this season, in terms of how they play. Some games, they’ll utilise Irankunda a lot, and other times they will essentially ignore him and he barely gets the ball. I wonder if some of the changes to the way he plays are because he needs to be deeper or closer to the play in order to actually get the ball passed to him.

Regardless, I think he will have grown a lot through this loan.

how do you arrive at that conclusion from what I said?

this place is non-sequitur central

Ross County are one of the worst top tier league clubs in Europe (they're no longer top tier) and they've managed to avoid relegation for many years until Nisbet arrived. He's A-league level but I don't know what other equivalent level league opportunities that provides with a better pay day.

Pretty obvious, and your last sentence suggests you do know where I'm going with this...

You said: He's too small to be a serious footballer at any decent level.

A: he's proven over several seasons he's a very good footballer at A League level.
B: he was voted the very best in the A League last year.
C: you said he's too small to be a serious footballer at any decent level.
D: Ergo... if he's good at A League level, A League can't be a decent level.
E: Ergo, ergo... no footballer in the A League is a serious footballer, or at the very least they were less serious than Nizz last season.

I think that's perfectly clear.

A-league is not a decent level, but that doesn't mean its impossible for a decent player to come through it as a development, just like the NPL - everybody starts somewhere, however Australia in general doesn't seem to foster many decent players in recent times in the men's game. Being voted best in the A-league is nothing to hang your hat on. There's been numerous duds who've won that honour.

In the case of Nisbet, he's already 25, he's never going to get any better and he doesn't have the physical attributes to succeed in a decent level league.

Keep your eye on the player here... he looks like a child and cannot compete for the ball on any physical level, let alone height - which results in the final goal and seals the fate of Ross County

Yes, yes, we all know how you feel about Nizz...

You might at least have admired the majesty of my syllogism after erroneously calling out a non-sequitur.
its nothing personal

I think a number of A-league fans have unrealistic expectations

the other observation I would say on Nisbet other than his size, he's quite slow around the pitch, which you can get away with in the A-league as its often played at walking place in the oppressive heat conditions but its a major liability in a league like the SPL

No, not a poll, but if you trawl through their forum you constantly see the fans bemoaning the fact that only Nizz, Hale and someone else whose name I forget were worth their wages and showed any sort of technical ability or fight.

I've lurked on their forum all season (plus various other forums where Oz players are).

I was interested because I've been reading their and occasionally their opponents forums after matches most weeks and, while I'd say it's true they regard him as one of the better players, I'd say they also don't think he's anything special. In fairness to Nisbet (who I rate), I think a lot of that is to do with just how awful Ross County are. Even their fans concede they are a real hoofball side, or as one opponent's fan described "launching howitzers". They complained about Cowie not using wingers, just sitting deep and launching long being the predominant tactic. Plus the pitch there is apparently sub-standard. Hardly the environment for Nisbet, with his skill set, to shine.

to be honest its a credit to him to survive a hoofball team. Hopefully he gets a league that suits him

This is exactly what some of teh RC fans said - that they didn't have the players to make the most of Nizz's qualities.
