Just a thought, surely wins such as this will bode well for the likes of Alex Robertson feeling called to be a part of the future of Australian football. He's 22 next month so he could be a more senior player with some of the boys in the future.

Now he just needs to snap out of it and realise that playing for World Cups is the pinnacle and jump on board.

Pavlesic
De Jesus Valkanis Leonard Lino
Youlley Eames
Irankunda Di Pizio Younes
Waddingham

Notice anything?
no one from the squad haha

wonder how close that is to our best. Caputo is another missing who could be better than jovanovic and waddingham if he stays fit

Credit to someone named Ethan, a MV on X for posting. Caputo got mentions too. Also, Garang, Mathews and Goodwin come agonisingly close with age eligibility.

Seen the odd segment or two on the sports report about the U20’s.

Would have liked to have seen some of the pundits in the commercial media space to spend a bit more time on this achievement.

It’s pretty significant, far more than the Mickey Mouse tournament the Matilda’s are playing in.

I haven’t been impressed with De Jesus. The times he’s played for Sydney FC he has been the weakness in the backline.

I get your point but his words were actually quite gracious.

Who knows what his thoughts were...
I know but I'm a super biased Aussie fan who thinks the upper echelons of the AFC hierarchy are a bunch of tools. 😁

Maybe it's different now but we know how ambivalent they are about our presence in the AFC. ;)

Sorry if this has been asked or is a silly question but do any of the players age out and become ineligible to play in the wc?

For a bit of tactical info on Morgan's formations it was like this.

In Ball Possession Opposition it was 4-4-2 flat midfield, 4-4-2 bowl shaped midfield, and 4-2-4.

Surprisingly, Moran deviated from the usual 4-3-3 defensive and attacking midfield triangles in Ball Possession. Instead he used 2 strikers in a bowl shaped midfield 4-4-2.

I think the team Morgan put out against Japan was IMO the best eleven of the players there. I've seen all 6 matches now on replays.

4-4-2 bowl shaped midfield deployed by Morgan:

...................................Hall

Bennie.........Esposito........Kikianis......Talidora

..................Deli......................Okon
Yull........................................................Bodalato

.................Jovanovic...........Toure

After watching Quintal against Qatar he is a better technician (a superb technician) than Yull, but Yull is more of a grafter in BPO and wins many more hard balls.

From my knowledge of the players not there in China, who I've seen ( knowing I haven' t seen a few) I would go for:

A 3-4-3 midfield diamond in Ball Possession.

...................................Hall

......Bennie.............Leonard............Kikianis

..................................Deli
...............Youlley......................Okon
.................................Eames

Irankunda..........Waddingham.........Walatee*

Why?

*I want the tough tackling, hardman Deli ( built like a brick outhouse) at the base of the midfield diamond. Deli also has fast handling speed, in his rapid one and two touch passing in tight spaces to play out.

*I want to fit both Youlley and Eames into the midfield, as well as Okon. I'm not sure I have them in their best positions?

*Walatee, who is a much stronger on the ball than most other wingers, and is a good ball winner too, is a solid Left Wing. He troubled both Socceroo RBs Geria and Atkinson in the AL. Walatee might be overage though?

* I'm emphatic that Leonard is vastly superior to Esposito ATM as a CB. I would also think his teammate, Kane Vidmar is too. I would have thought Herrington is better than Esposito as well.

Even though they played weaker teams, the defence in China improved with every game, with my best eleven of the players who played in China.

yeah he has played different systems with different age groups. I think he doesn't really think we are producing wingers that are as effective as our cams or strikers?

He always selected two central strikers in China.

I think it has only been Kuwait who've moaned about us.

Originally, teams like Japan and South K wanted us in Asia to test themselves against, and improve, against European style rugged physicality.
