Australian politics.

Just by the by when did generations start being 14 years instead of 25?

Boomers - 18 years
Gen X - 25 years

Millennials - 14 years
Gen Z - 14 years

25 makes more sense when you think that's from being born to adulthood/marriage/children etc. (IE that's when you get a new generation.)

Cheers chatGPT.

Why the Shift to Shorter Cohorts?
Faster societal and tech changes: The pace of change has accelerated. A child born in 1997 (early Gen Z) had a very different formative environment than one born in 2011.

Marketing and media: Shorter generations help target consumer and voter segments more precisely.

Cultural shifts: Each group is shaped by unique events — like 9/11, the 2008 crash, or COVID-19 — that define attitudes and behaviors.

In Summary
Scientific generation (biological): ~25–30 years.

Modern sociocultural generation: ~15–20 years, variable to reflect cultural/technological shifts.

The move to shorter labels is more about usefulness in analysis than strict biological reasoning.

The man that pays the piper calls the tune. I assume we're all grown ups here. Don't make me talk to you like you're Dom Torretto.
Nah and what? Run that play. Because it'll only take a couple more plays until you'll argue for an oligarchy with unfettered power to run this country and whatever cost.

So lets dance. And what?

Yeah mate, but thats social media... who even cares? I get where you are coming from but if a random stranger starts talking politics or religion ont eh street he gets a short sharp fuck off from me.... .. I consider this place a bunch of friends that have never actually met, chewing the shit over various topics :)
How do you feel about being approached by activists looking for support on a cause, Mono?

Such as unionists wearing Don’t Risk Dutton T shirts? With the objective of decimating Dutton/LNP.

They should always be polite and respectful too.

My better half, won’t doorknock because she doesn’t like people doorknocking us, is also a political activist, and others think she is even more persuasive with the public than me when leafleting shopping centres. Ha ha!

I don't know about australia stats but in the usa the boomers have swung left and the gen z have swung right, especially compared to historical benchmarks which have older voters getting more conservative

I think I saw some similar stats in canada
Astonishing, Grazor!

Alan Koehler, the left leaning economist who presents economic reports on ABC has written extensively in the New Daily providing plenty of data.

The LNP is dominated by old white men. Their greatest support base is the over 60s.

Need to breakdown those stats further. In the US girls are breaking left, blokes tend to vote more right. Not sure about boomers there but I'd be surprised if that's true.

In Australia Boomers overwhelmingly vote Liberal or National.
True in Aus, from data compiled by Kohler and in The Guardian about gender.

The vast majority of political activists in the union movement, environment/climate and civil liberties are female. Females seem to be better organisers than males too.

From chat GPT and here's the source. (2022 election.)

Clearly shows the older you are the more likely you vote 'conservative'.

--------------------------------------------------8<-------------------------------------------------

In the 2022 Australian federal election, voting preferences exhibited significant variation across age demographics, with younger voters predominantly supporting Labor and the Greens, while older voters showed a stronger inclination towards the Coalition.

🗳️ Voting Preferences by Generation

Generation Z (born 1996–2009):

Millennials (born 1981–1995):

  • Coalition: 24.3% (21.9% of men, 25.7% of women)
  • Labor: Approximately 38%
  • Greens: Around 30%The Times Australia

Generation X (born 1965–1980):

Baby Boomers (born 1946–1964):

  • Coalition: Approximately 45%
  • Labor: Approximately 35%
  • Greens: Around 10%

Silent Generation (born before 1946):

  • Coalition: Approximately 50%
  • Labor: Approximately 30%
  • Greens: Around 5%

These figures are based on data from the Australian Election Study and other analyses .
Thanks for posting this, Muz.

I think Ive mentioned this to you before D, Im very much against it... personally... I appreciate volunteerism and people doorknocking or handing out information to promote their cause, however I am clear enough in my opinions not to NEED someone to push their agenda with me.. Its a firm and polite "no thanks"

Thanks for looking that up.. I must say I was a bit peplexed about how generational classificaions dont line up with my preconceived idea (like yours) of 25 years... but it certainly makes sense from a technology viewpoint.. Interesting.. How long into the future before the very rapidly increasing technology "leaps" make generational definitions in 5-10 years???

I'm sure I had read something years ago that a 'generation' was considered 10 years, so it might already be out there somewhere..
Not in the sense of the societal generations (Gen X, Gen Z, etc), but just more a general point.

You're talking in riddles lad.

Why do you think organisations donate to political parties?
