Ccm v johor

no howlers in his last few that i can see

if he develops into an elite keeper I'd like to see him make the save against the first segecic goal, and one of his punched clearances was unconvincing (but went out so no disaster). But he is saving what I'd expect him to save and his sweeping, judgement on crosses and distribution have all been pretty decent in the games I've seen

Fair enough. I see it different.

It's lowkey a damming indictment on Malaysian football that they can't even produce players good enough to play for Johor. 10/13 players who were fielded were visa players with another 2 as unused subs. They also had a naturalised South American on the bench too.

Having said that, for CCM to lose 2-1 and have 10 men for half the game is a good effort.

But on this, they really should bring back some foreign quotas because filling a team with visa players does nothing to improve Malaysian player development.

thought there were limits on how many foreign players you were allowed?

Even before the red card, Johore was consistently better than CCM technically. Whereas better AL sides than CCM, tend to be better at maintaining possession, the Johore team, were more proficient than CCM in Ball Possession. They maintained possession effortlessly.

The Johore players looked quite different to the ethnic Chinese, Indians and Malays, from Malaysia, in the many times I've visited the country. Almost the entire Johore team looked like they were South Americans! I've been told off line, that many are Spanish.

Whereas the better AL teams have technicians who are two footed, the Johore players were more one foot dominant, but were able to do a lot with the dominant foot, like receive and pass with the shoelace, inside of the foot and outside of the foot. They moved well off the ball in possession, supporting each other. Conversely, CCM had to work a lot harder to keep the ball even with 11 v 11.

Not sure about the backgrounds of all the Johore players who weren't Malaysian nationals, but playing Asian Champ league sometimes isn't like playing Asian teams!

People think football in Australia has problems. I went to watch Sabah FC play Pahang FC in the Malaysian “Super” League last night. Sabah are 3rd on the table. There were probably around 1,000 people there (and that’s with $5 entry) and the standard was abysmal. JDT who recently played CCM in the ACL elite after 19 games are undefeated with 55 points, and a goal difference of 61(!). JDT have won the championship the last 10 years in a row and are owned by the Sultan of Johor. Their squad has 17 foreigners (including Australia’s Shane Lowry and former Perth Glory player Mathew Davies, who now plays for Malaysia. Former Sydney FC player Brendan Gan is at KL City and has also switched to Malaysia.) Like Indonesia they’ve recently capped a lot of players for the NT with mixed blood, some Aussie like Davies and Gan but mainly English born. And like Saudi Arabia with so many foreign players in the league, the Malaysia national team is now suffering. There’s no interest in the league. People don’t care and only watch and follow the English Premier League.
