Why is Trump threatening to take over the Panama Canal?
The Panama government has controlled the canal since 1999, based on a treaty signed with the US in 1977.www.aljazeera.com
It used to be fun to think of Elon Musk as some kind of real life Bond villain. With his global EV company, his Space X rockets, his Starlink Satellites, colonising Mars. Assembling an army of intelligent robots. Implanting 'telepathic' computer chips into our brains.
He even has an Ian Fleming sounding name!
Each new scheme he cooked up was so ambitious, and so absurd, that it almost didn’t feel real. But over the last few years, particularly since his acquisition of Twitter things started to feel different, and the consequences have truly started to unfold in recent months.
Not content with his role as the unelected co-President-elect of the most powerful nation in the world, Musk has also sought pretexts to assail other governments, from Canada to Germany to the UK.
After undoubtedly having played a role in helping Trump get elected, there is ample reason to believe that he has gotten a taste for playing kingmaker and toppling governments he does not like.
It’s like he’s gathering allies for the Spectre meeting, but instead of a secret lair, it’s all happening on his Twitterverse.
It'd be funny if it wasn't so serious. No, it's fucking bizarre. Makes you wonder how it will end.
Where's 007 when you need him?
they don't happen by themselves chiefCoup d'état's have been happening since time began. Sometimes internally and sometimes externally. Sometimes militarily and sometimes civilians It’s the way of the world.

Russia and China are developing and using the Northern Sea Route extensively & are in testing to use it all year round. Besides the resources ( oil and God know what else ) hidden in Greenland it's a vital shipping route that America wants in on to a certain extent.![]()
Denmark struggles to stay calm in crisis over Trump threat to take Greenland
Copenhagen's grey winter skies match the mood among politicians and business leaders in the face of a crisis.www.bbc.com

The Northern Sea Route is gaining prominence because it's basically the shortest route between East Asia and Europe. It has the potential to rewrite the entire world's logistics networks so this is huge. The Arctic itself is also rich in a shitload natural resources so this is an opening salvo in a decades long struggle. Greenland just happens to be where they are, nothing more, nothing less, nothing personal.
Like it or not America, China & Russia are the three eminent powers that can military or otherwise dictate the future of all of this. Denmark can either a) sell it to America b) allow America to establish a large military presence there or c) come to a mutually beneficial long term arrangement. They're a pawn in all of this and the sooner they recognise what is at stake here the better.
In many ways this reminds me of the British and their Suez Canal adventures. History has a funny way of repeating itself.
Well I do like how you used Suez as a comparison. It's a very similar situation, at least in terms of global logistics, just greatly enhanced as the world has greatly advanced since the years following WW2.Russia and China are developing and using the Northern Sea Route extensively & are in testing to use it all year round. Besides the resources ( oil and God know what else ) hidden in Greenland it's a vital shipping route that America wants in on to a certain extent.
