Here is some plots for those data nerdy. Unsurprisingly the boost from a good u20 performance comes a couple of years earlier than u17. Surprisingly the boost is pretty constant and the reversion to the mean is surprisingly gradual. I took 30 anomolously good u17 results in international tournaments and ignored powerhouses (so generally teams ranked 30-60ish). I can give the full list of anomalies for those interested

I did the same for u20s with about 30 anomalies. I'm really surprised that once you remove powerhouses the size of the effect for u20s is as strong as the size for u17s!

I did this a bit roughly - I took the elo for the first game of the year rather than the average for the year. Will do it properly later....
