Expansion Thread

TBH an amalgamation of viable AL teams and Championship sides under the FA would make the most sense.
As much as I don't wish for the AL models come to party with the organic local clubs its the only way for survival more so for the game having the 1 model it richly deserves going Pro and Championship or Pro2 below.
Even with those 2 apl gone who's next ? PG, Jets (despite new owners) and who knows re BR.
PJ your club re Charlesworth, we all know he's waiting for a decent figure to bail out.
Thats 4 of 11 if Bulls/WU are pulled.

I sense the feeling is maybe it’s getting to the stage where we can’t afford to have a professional league if clubs are struggling financially like this

It’s a sad reality where these things need money and a lot of it, maybe we could entice more Bill Foley’s to pump money into the league? Probably a bit optimistic lol.

I could see the day the league returns back into FA hands because their way the league run has been under the APL has been underwhelming to say at least.

Maybe FA doesnt want the franchises back...... The model is a money pit and FA is now sitting flush... why throw good money after bad faith?

Can the Aleague clubs "downsize" their operational costs enough to be able to do something like that though?
Well that’s the million $ question.
How does their model or investor get unbundled.
So complicated.
Say some kind of proposal becomes ?
For some they’re locked in ground deals that are mega ?
The big like City SFC Victory owners I can’t see drawing back.

Fark this time last year was the MacArthur gambling scandal the off pitch issues plague us

Thats why I say its too hard.... millions of dollars in investments isnt going to just be forgiven in order to play in a semi pro league against state league teams with 10% of the budgets.. Lowys bright idea "went big" now its time to "go home".

All expansion needs to stop. Just come out and make a statement. 3 year pause on any expansion efforts.

Hand the league back to Football Australia. The APLs have completely butchered this. From top to bottom.

I feel for clubs like MVFC and Newcastle, whose ownership groups seem to be doing really good things.

Stay in your fkn lane for god sake. Football is a small sport in this country, just get it right!

APL doing a magnificent job of getting extra TV money and managing the league since they took over.

What has victory and Newcastle owners done that's good?

Newcastle have proper people on board through maverick Sports partners. Crowds are astronomically up. must be doing something right up there.

Victory have just sold a large chunk to a proper football person. This will help dramatically.

Not a property development corporation building a pitch in the middle of a fkn paddock. A proper football person.

No. Sold ages ago to maverick Sports partners.

Highets percentage attendance increase in the league this season.
well only back last June '24.
In saying good on Newy, area deserves stable ownership but there is a motza more below that arn't bothered.
The increase shows more so what they lost for a long time very low base.
Nonetheless as mentioned good luck to them.

Though may I say who's involved :
The group is led by Maurice Bisetto, who previously helped establish Western United FC.

You quoted this further back - SPOT ON.
tsf calling out Frankie baby who is redeemed by some here and kudos mate :), sure he got football on the big dance floor ala AFL/NRL but this is what we are NOT from a very low base.
The honeymoon is long over and those hangers on are hanging on, it won't recover I can't see it at all as the model currently is.
We went from one extreme by some (NSL) to the other - a smarter bloke would have actioned a peace pipe with ol sochka sooner or later, tried to bridge the gap together then the game may have hope long ago instead of this meltdown happenning again.
IF it had hope I say so but can't see it.
