General FIFA World Cup Discussion

The kids don't see all the other things. They just see Haaland or Mbappe doing signs on insta and showing off, and they follow. None of them are bought up on what it means to support a certain club. So many choose their team just based on Insta and who is a "sigma alpha skibidi rizz ohio". If anything, these world cups probably will appeal to them because of the Insta that will be created.
I still find it wild that little kids wearing Mbappe or Ronaldo jereseys can do all the player's goal celebrations but have no other interest in the game.....

The kids at the school I teach at are always like "Sir, watch this. For you". They then hit like a lame shot which goes in and then do some silly celebration. Then when I tell them things, they just look so confused. There's no appreciation for actual talent anymore. Players like Iniesta, Scholes, Xavi, Cannavaro et al would all be called shit by this generation.

Exactly what Im talking about..... Im the "soccer mad uncle" at every single family get together and inevitably have some well meaning cousin tell his 10 year old (in a pink Messi jersey) "tell uncle MSC who your favourite player is, he loves soccer" ... I made a 6 year old cry last week when I told him Mbappe was a lazy/shit player... hahaha Im a little ashamed of myself :P

Hahaha. Some of my students asked me my favourite all time player. I told them Cruyff. They were like, "who?". When I explained how he revolutionised the game and is the brains behind Barca, they responded with, "Nah, Barca was good because of Pep and Messi"

So apparently we registered interest but couldn't seem to sort out the stadium situation with the AFL/NRL in time for the bid to go in.

from 5 mins on they talk about Australia's bid.

How did our failed bid not get any media coverage? or did I miss it?

It's sad that the 2034 world cup will be Saudi, but I genuinely believe it could our most successful world cup ever. The boys will have extensive experience playing in ME by then. If its mid season that benefits in the form a-league players maybe getting 1 or 2 young guns. I expect we will have most of the spine of the team playing in top 5 leagues... Although I'm not entirely sure on the GK front. Not the most enticing place to go to though.

HAHAAH well , to be fair, that's sort of generational bias thing... Dad and I still have drawn out arguments over Pele vs Maradona ... At least your students know who Pep and Leo played for right????

They only see Pep as a manager, not a player. They also see him as the greatest manager ever which I disagree with obviously.

I don't think they all know he played for Barca.

We were in preliminary talks with both New Zealand and Indonesia (Indonesia also in talks with other ASEAN nations) but all this was killed when FIFA announced that 30 and 34 would be voted on at the same time instead of 3 years away for 34 and gave everyone 4 weeks to submit preliminary bids (Saudi Arabia had their one in a couple of hours later). The heavies were put on us to withdraw and in return we became the only bidder for the next Asian women's Cup. We were actually the last of those expressing interest to withdraw and there really is no way we can host a 48 team tournament to men's World Cup requirements on our own. We just don't have enough suitable stadia and likely never will.

Speaking of joint World cup bids..... has FIFA worked on a "plan B" regarding travel to and from the US/Mexico ... its gonna be a little chaotic during the dark ages of Trumpistan? At least "absorbing" Canada will mean one less international border to cross for the "greenest World Cup ever pty ltd"

Let’s pray that doesn’t end up happening, bc that’d quite certainly trigger WW3.

Will that be an issue? I'm not sure if I have my timeline right, but wasn't the joint bid endorsed by Trump's gov. during his first term?

Yeah but that was then, this is now... Old Donnie wants to buy Greenland, invada Panama (again), annex Canada and nuke mexico ..... what a world we live in....

What did Pakistan do wrong to be banned? As for Congo well all things considering they'd have to ban half of Africa.
The PFF has been suspended with immediate effect due to its failure to adopt a revision of the PFF Constitution that would ensure truly fair and democratic elections and thereby fulfil its obligations as mandated by FIFA as part of the ongoing normalisation process of PFF.
The suspension will only be lifted subject to the PFF Congress approving the version of the PFF Constitution presented by FIFA and the AFC.
