Green & Gold FC Podcast: Episode 1

Segecic isn't probably as good as Jake Hollman ATM.

Arzani - agree Grazor. Great in everything except finishing, which is atrocious ATM.

Holman isn't a bad option but for the right inside forward position I'm prioritising 1) goal scoring 2) ability to get back and help the build up 3) pressing. Since segecic is getting a lot of goals he might be worth a shout over Holman (who I also rate!)

True.

Segecic is scoring, but isn't as disciplined and as defensively minded as Jake H.

Not for the same positions though.

Segecic is a much better attacker, on great form and clearly has an eye for goal.

Love Hollman and wouldn't mind seeing him get an opportunity in the midfield but not as an inside forward.

Good day, Alex.

Welcome to the forum!

I had quite a few questions / comments for you in particular. You don’t know me, but I’ve done a lot of post match stats - 1v1s, passing completion, balls played into the box, balls played into the box on the ground, shots at goal, keeper saves and intercepts.

They’ve been compiled from looking at replays - sometimes involving replaying an action over and over to determine an outcome. Stats recorded at half time are often wrong on TV.

One I read in the media was that Bahrain won 1v1 duels against Aus.

Aus dominated Bahrain in 1v1s, easily got the better of Saudi, but Japan were much more competitive, albeit still losing overall.

Geria and Caceres won a lot of duels - close to the best on the pitch. Playing against rugged Aussies week in and week out in the AL, is harder than winning 1v1s against most Asian teams. Despite Japan improving a lot. They tend to dribble around our players a lot and win speed duels.

Hollman screens the defence better. He is a better ball winner, and more disciplined positionally.

Segecic is a better dribbler. ATM he is better around goals too.

Both I have identified as a new breed of technically superior young player to past gens.

Hollman gets his head up whilst dribbling and running with the ball. Seg isn’t too bad either.

Just gave the pod a listen, well done fellas, very interesting and looking forward to the next instalment.
Welcome to the forum, Samb.

I’m still 26 mins short of completing the podcast.

I’m watching an AL replay ATM - Mac v Nix.

You mentioned the 3 at the back for the Socceroos.

The formation evolves from a 5-2-3, 5-4-1 and a 3-4-3 in different parts of the pitch. The 3-4-3 being considered attacking.

Although harsh, agree about Tony G for the Matildas. He wasn't playing in a national proactive style as designated by the new French/Dutch/Spanish style coaching methodology used in the NC. Tony G was all over the shop. He didn't tend to coach the team to play in 4-3-3 and its various manifestations. As you suggest he may have been a great player manager, kept the players very happy, but we went backwards under his tenure. A bit like Holger. Grab the cash and no concern abut long term building for the future.

Also, agree Tony G didn't try younger players enough. He relied on a first eleven. Arguably those players were the best we had at the time, but the Matildas were playing very much as a counter attacking team - which may have suited the strengths of about 5 quick players, but the Tillies didn't maintain possession like the men's teams do. Whoever is the current interim coach, (is it Sermanni?), played a number of new players in the last friendlies .

Loved the first episode of the pod!! Finished it today on the drive to and from work.

Small bit of feedback...would have been nice as a bit of an intro to the podcast itself...eg what made you want to start it? Who the people actually are on it? and maybe even a bit of their background without giving away anything personal etc.

I guessed it was made up of members of this forum but all assumptions without any intros to the personnel or podcast itself. Cheers!

I have listened to the first podcast.Enjoyed the insights. How often will you do the podcasts?

Also maybe limit it to 45 to 50 minutes.Up the track perhaps invite ex-players, coaches and even referees( male and female) to join in.Well done.
Thanks we do indeed want to have guests and limit to under an hour
