We talk a lot about players but are there any Australian managers that are impressing you?

Matildas also included in this as they need a gaffer.

I feel vidmar deserves some respect how's his done with us but it's still halfway in the season.

Veart maybe as well with Adelaide

Rumour is that Montemurro will sign for Matildas which would be great, but it may not be until June.

I have to confess that I did not rate Vidmar and expected City to be bottom four. So far he is proving me wrong but what I did not see coming were the products from the Academy. I did not expect MVC not to have the engine to last 90 minutes nor for SFC to be performing so poorly.

Veart for me is doing a stellar job.

TBH aside from Zadkovic at BR, the rest of the coaches are not doing too bad with the resources and budget at hand. Zdrillic at PG started badly but in the last three weeks the team is starting to gel.

Apparently we were after Casey Stoney for the Matildas but she chose to manage Canada. Montemurro would be better anyway if that rumour is serious.

Mile Sterjovski - tough circumstances, developed a lot of decent young players under the radar.

I think Montemurro is the most preferred candidate and FA are delaying till closer to the end of the season in Europe.
He would probably be the best choice given his experience and would resonate with the media here which is a necessary part of the Matildas promotion.

Considering Montemurro just took the Lyon job it will be interesting to see how he gets out of that, or if he is going to be balancing two jobs.

I feel that this season, Veart, Corica, Vidmar and Aloisi have been the four most impressive managers for different reasons.

Veart - has a young team that struggled last season at times and has them top of the league.

Corica - managed to get Auckland flying despite a number of their players either having never played pro football before or have had limited experience as a professional.

Vidmar - has been dealt with one of the worst hungry runs I’ve seen in this league and despite the fact he had to play heaps of kids each week, his team keeps delivering.

Aloisi - has a very young team and only male 3 new signings, many people (myself included) expected them to finish last and struggle for goals. They’ve managed to score plenty of goals and are entrenched in the top 6.

I also think Sterjovski has done a decent job too. The spot fixing scandal could’ve destroyed Macarthur but it’s barely made an impact at all.

Good thread title, MCG.

I was about to post a response, but after reading your post, AUFC Fan, you've pretty well summed it all up for me!

Don't know much about Auckland players' backgrounds. I've looked up Gillion, who has impressed me, and know about Brimmer and Brian Hall.
They are older than other teams, and Corica has done a good job with them. They won't improve much compared to the other 3 coaches you mention coaching young squads.

I think Corica has got a lot out of them. If many haven't played pro football before, I'm astonished Corica has them Full Pressing and Squeezing as intensively as he has. It is energy sapping.

All of these coaches have got potential to do well, good to see we more coaches coming through.

Why do you say that?
Won a title at Eastern Suburbs after a 48 year absence with essentialy a team of kids.

Has international experience managing the all whites and had them playing some good football, many of the players graduating from that Eastern Suburbs side.

Apparently implemented professional changes at Perth SC before leaving. 😂

Fair enough that's good insight sounds like his ready for a manager job

Someone has mentioned it before, but Sterjovski is doing well with Macarthur ATM.

Last season when I looked at them, they were a pretty old team, full of imports.

Now I've realised Jones is a 21 yo Aussie, Mac are a really young side - for the team that played Nix.

I also like Sterjovski's calm demeanour. In all the coaching courses coaches now do, calm and being analytical is emphasised for coaches on the sidelines. The screaming of Rudan ( at refs), supposedly Talay, and Kisnorbo's agitated demeanour, is a considered to be totally inappropriate.

All the work should have been done on the the training ground. Sterjovski's impassive demeanour is ideal.

The work should be done off the ground on the training track - after identifying football problems from the last game/s ( where, when, who, what, why, how?), constructing training ground exercises to redress the football problems for the last game/s, good preparation on match day, with a half time address from the coach addressing how, when, why, where, what?, being paramount.

Depending on the culture, histrionics might also bring forth a reprimand from the owners:

I suspect that Turkey, for example, might be more tolerant of rants from Kewell, or Talay for that matter.

Apparently Muscat being linked with vacant Feyenoord manager's position. Whether there's any substance to it or just bookies throwing every man and his dog into the field remains to between.
They would not pay out Shanghai Port I wouldn't think. 🤔
