Matildas friendlies in Western Australia

Extended 33-player squad for the Matildas friendlies against Slovenia and Panama in Western Australia, our first squad under Montemurro has been named. Mackenzie Arnold back from injury, as is Hayley Raso. Sharn Freier's back for the Matildas and Ellie Carpenter returns from personal leave. No Steph Catley, Caitlin Foord or Katrina Gorry, who are all on personal leave. Cortnee Vine still continuing her extended leave. Kahli Johnson ruled out with the thigh injury sustained in the previous international window.
 
Certain players in the Matildas extended 33-player squad only there for either the Slovenia or Panama games. Only Chidiac, Gielnik, Grant, Heyman, Hunt, McNamara, Micah, Murphy, Nevin, Prior, Rankin, Raso, Sayer and Emily van Egmond there for all the friendlies.

So 14 for all 4, with the other 19 named for the first 2 or last 2. Hopefully the 23/24 picked for each set of 2 games can balance minutes across the group and a few of the lesser lights can impress the coach and put pressure on the established core players.
 
Wonders aloud if all these games in Perth will have an affect on Football generally across WA.

With Sam Kerr a local hero, you could add Adam Taggart as well I guess.

Also PG seem to be investing in their squad.

Be interesting to watch and see how it develops
 
SQUAD UPDATE: Clare Wheeler has withdrawn for personal reasons and will not take part in the Slovenia and Panama series.

Chloe Berryhill and Jessika Nash will join the assembly on Wednesday afternoon and be available for the full international window.
 


First starting XI under Montemurro has been named for our opening game against Slovenia. Ellie Carpenter starts as captain. Teagan Micah starts between the sticks.
 
Glad Van Egmond is starting. Need to test to see how she fits well in the team. Hasn't played enough yet.
