Matildas match thread

yep made mention of CCross's run with the ball in my earlier post, was brilliant skill by her and deserved so much more out it - and from the crowd who most not have much clue.
Great they are there supporting if only knew when, even a clearance to no where, infact straight out of play got a cheer haha
When I mentioned this in the other forum I was told I was an NSL bitter and ALL Matildas fans are football fans first, womens sport fans second :)

You could be a good leader out there, why not go to the game and educate a section of the crowd, good point.
That's a great idea. If each member of this forum did the same, the issue would be resolved.

They had probably changed out of their Wallabies jerseys and came straight to the game.

No i don't believe that.

This bit is not necessarily at you EZ

Look it is a bit annoying all the screaming but they're packing out stadiums, the matches are rating their arses off, they've got massive sponsorships all on the back of, basically, women and kids.

Sure they're not the type of football fans we'd imagine but they're fans all the same and isn't that what we want?

Good on them.

I agree completely Muz... but ......... its really having no effect on support for the men's game one way or the other... at least that I can see.

Not that it needs too, just wanted to make sure its not mistakenly misrepresented.

Kind of. But I would prefer knowledgable fans and a proper football culture.
I suppose it might be a case of what comes first; the chicken or the egg?

Anyway, I don't think the "Matilda effect" will be long lasting enough to have the right effect. This is just a flash in the pan.

Definitely not a flash in the pan, I think it will go from strength to strength. Football is catering for a whole new audience not just here but worldwide.

Long ball after long ball after long ball into the box. Faaaark.

Matildas having about as much fun in asia as the socceroos have had

pretty good 2nd goal though

I.dont get why they lined up Taiwan as a opponent. They aren't near our level so thrashing them is pointless
They arent near our level??? Are you watching? Their players are much more skillful than us. Many in this matildas squad should learn basic first touch from them. The matildas are struggling to beat them. The level are now about the same between the two nations.

A flash in the pan, would be one or two years. This has gone on longer.

BTW, i don’t watch women’s football, but what they are achieving, interest wise, is phenomenal.

Result will say comfortable win, but it was not. One thing that stood out to me was how often players received the ball with back to goal and had to go backwards. It's a massive issue that needs to change.
