Just wanted to post a thankyou thread to Maty!

They wrote him off because he was only 6'0, but they didn't know how good his feet and shot stopping ability really was.

Has played at the highest level of the game.

100 caps, still only 33.

He has on several occasions chose country over his club and ensured he was always playing as much as possible to stay sharp for WCQs. Could of easily stayed at Sociedad or Roma and been 2nd string and live in a beautiful European city on big coin, but has always chose to play more instead.

Thanks Maty! He is a massive rock for us at the back constantly marshalling. He doesn't get enough praise!

On track to be our 2nd best ever goal keeper
As a performer as a NT keeper. As a club keeper he really suffered when he left Michel Preud'homme at Brugge. Crawley at CCM and Preud'homme taught him a lot. When he has run of the rails occasionally he used to talk to one or both of them to get back on track.

At a minimum Schwarzer and Bosnich have had better club careers. As a NT keeper he compares quite favourably with Schwarzer.

he is starting to eclipse Bosnich's club career for me, certainly in terms of sustained success at the top. Without the white powder Bosnich would be much more clearly in front. Just comparing the 2:

Ryan: 2 seasons at Brugge, 3 seasons as first choice in the epl, a season and a half as first choice at az and a half season as first choice at lens

bosnic: 5 seasons playing at least 25 matches in all comps in the epl

It's at minimum starting to get close and ryan has a few years left in him

Schwarzer was dire for Australia early on but achieved great things later in his career.

I reckon this pretty well sums it up. Schwarzer definitely GOAT in my books, but I'd definitely have Ryan second for GKs.

Persona:
Scwharzer: Sosphisticated renaissance man - sips cognac, while smoking a cigar in front of a fireplace in a red velvet jacket. Unlikely to have a beer with you.

Bosnich: Larrikin everyman - nose beers in a dunny when not playing with his fake hair. Most likely to have a beer with you.

Ryan: Bogan westie - smokes winnie blues when he's not punching cones or skolling rum and cokes. Most likely to punch you for having the wrong shaped head.

Nice caricatures. TBH though when and while Schwarzer and Ryan played their body was and is their temple. They both worked incredibly hard. Bosnich such a raw but ultimately wasted talent (in more ways than one).

yes absolutely pjennings re temples but damn what would we do without Muz and our Bozza Larrikin everyman - nose beers in a dunny when not playing with his fake hair. Most likley to have a beer with you.
Nothing like having a bit of fun we always know there's a price to pay :)

The GOAT is Bosnich, with daylight second. The first game against Brazil in the 97 Confed Cup, the Club World Cup game for Man United are 2 games that Bosnich was magnificent. He is the only Aussie who was world No. 1 in his position ever, though only briefly.

Schwazer's heroics in the 2005 penalty shootout puts him above Ryan out of the two of them. Arnie's substitution of Redmayne for Ryan in the 2021 shootout against Peru will always tarnish Ryan's legacy and place in history. Having said that, the save and recovery from the penalty against Saudi Arabia this week was fantastic.

I'm a big fan of Bosnich. Went and saw him when he played for Villa.

Easily the most talented of the 3. Unfortunately the most reckless with his talent and it's painful to think of what could have been.

Still, he seems happy, so good for him.
