Sign Up Now!The GOAT is Bosnich, with daylight second. The first game against Brazil in the 97 Confed Cup, the Club World Cup game for Man United are 2 games that Bosnich was magnificent. He is the only Aussie who was world No. 1 in his position ever, though only briefly.
Schwazer's heroics in the 2005 penalty shootout puts him above Ryan out of the two of them. Arnie's substitution of Redmayne for Ryan in the 2021 shootout against Peru will always tarnish Ryan's legacy and place in history. Having said that, the save and recovery from the penalty against Saudi Arabia this week was fantastic.
I was looking at it from our GK's perspective due to the many following GK discussion comparos but your right.Think Tim Cahill & Harry Kewell occupy that title.
Maty isn't even our greatest ever keeper.
I'd have Schwarzer & Bosnich (the latter was my childhood hero in the mid 90's) over Maty too.I was looking at it from our GK's perspective due to the many following GK discussion comparos but your right.
Title does quote Greatest Roo.
yer nah sorry MR isn't near TC as much as HK was the better more skilful player (my opinion) TC's stats beast over HK's.
There are a number of images, texts, discussions on how players would be had they not become pro and rich. Rooney in a caravan, Ribery some disco creep, Ryan would be some Mount Druitt lad with and eshay hairstyle.Persona:
Scwharzer: Sosphisticated renaissance man - sips cognac, while smoking a cigar in front of a fireplace in a red velvet jacket. Unlikely to have a beer with you.
Bosnich: Larrikin everyman - nose beers in a dunny when not playing with his fake hair. Most likley to have a beer with you.
Ryan: Bogan westie - smokes winnie blues when he's not punching cones or skolling rum and cokes. Most likely to punch you for having the wrong shaped head.

I never saw good shot stopping for the roos from bosnich mind youSchwarzer's heroics in the Uruguay game puts him just in front of Maty.Bosnich best shot stopper but when the rule changed that GKs had to play with their feet he was not that comfortable.
We have been lucky with our custodians-Ron Lord,Ron Corry,Terry Greedy,Jim Fraser,Jack Reilly and Rob Zabica were all terrific between the sticks in past Aussie teams

Have to check if i have that one in the archive thread...Watch Australia v Brazil group game in 1997 Confederations Cup
That's actually a very valid point. Pound for pound keepers at big clubs aren't that great due to having great defences and opponents often submitting and not attacking.I mean in terms of contribution. Schwarzer had at least some quality ahead of him Neill, Moore, Vidmar were all top defenders. Maty has played the majority of his Socceroos career with guys like Wilkinson, Bailey Wright and Ryan McGowan in front of him.... there's no comparison lol.
Bosnich was our greatest keeper but he barely played for Socceroos, Maty will be playing at his 4th world cup next year.
Just watched a 10 minute highlight video. Really nothing that stood out as outstanding. Very good defensive effort though.Watch Australia v Brazil group game in 1997 Confederations Cup
Ok. I haven’t seen it for a long time, but my recollection was that Bosnich seemed unbeatable that game. Maybe my memory is wrong and it wasn’t so much him as the rest of the defence.Just watched a 10 minute highlight video. Really nothing that stood out as outstanding. Very good defensive effort though.
