NPL 2025

Reckon its not going to take Preston fans long to get bored being in this league with no higher place to go like the rest of us have endured for years lol.

Of course i'd settle for being bored over a relegation scrap.

Thought I'd get in early.

Pre season starts next month for most clubs and the transfer rumour mill has already kicked off.

Caught a NPL game yesterday.

First game in years. Two teams on bottom - Launceston United b Clarence Zebras.

NPL Tas has improved out of sight!

Both teams organised off the ball. LU much better on it, and better off ball movement to support ball carriers in Ball Possession.

LU 3-0 up when I left. Superb 2nd goal from right winger - beat RB with body swerve and shot low just inside near post!

Teams possess ball for longer than they did. Less transitional play.

A few players too slow to make decisions when on ball. CZ too slow to open passing lanes to support ball carrier, but improved in second half.

Have two NPL clubs within a few kilometres. Will attend more games. Just love live football! Nothing like it!

I took a few photos of Clarence Zebras v Launceston United. Don't know how to post them here, but I know another G and G member who does!

Man still shell shocked from that thunder start.

Uchida is a machine and their number 8 was really good.

Can see why it's so hard to play/get a result there.

So what's the go with South & Knights this year? How come they're looking like they're going down?

Cant speak on Knights but at South its a combination of hanging on to the previous coach 1 year too many and not really recruiting well in the off season despite some notable departures.

The problem right now is we have a thin squad, no senior strikers and some ill timed injuries, we also couldnt find a capable replacement coach.

I think we will go down and quite comfortably. Although we will get a better idea next week against bottom placed Port Melbourne.

Big win at home for Yoogali against last years premiers!

Both the premiership and relegation battles looking juicy already to me, and we’re only 5 games in.

Of the 3 teams on 2 points before this weekend, two of them recorded their first wins of the season (Queanbeyan defeating Monaro in the first NPL QBN Derby, and Yoogali demolishing the third of those three teams - Gungahlin United - at home)

Also meant that the only two (so far) undefeated sides lost their first matches of the season.

Croatia 12
Monaro 12
Tigers 11
Tuggeranong 6
Yoogali 5
Queanbeyan 5
O’Connor 4
Gungahlin 2

Lot of outs on the attack side - via Capital Football’s NPL Season Preview:

The league Champions head into the defence of their crown seeking to reinvent their front line following the departure of several big names in that area, including Golden Boot winner Lukman Ahmed-Shaibu. The American left for Indonesia in mid-season, and was joined overseas by English winer Daniel Olaoye, while Romeo Jambrek and Mikey Katsoulis have departed for pastures new. The arrival of Luca Florez may go some way to easing that, but there appears to be a position vacant for whoever can step up into the goalscoring role the club requires, a role they will hope the promotion of youth will fulfil. At the back long-term Gunner Badreldin Abbas has moved on, Olympic central defender Lasse Olrik recruited in his place. Replacing the under-rated Nick Dahl and Shandon Whitehead might be the hardest task for Javier Roca ahead of the commencement of the 2025 season.

Weekend results – May 9 to May 11.

NPL NSW round 14:
Manly United 1 Rockdale Ilinden 1

Marconi Stallions 0 Wollongong Wolves 3
St George City 0 APIA Leichhardt Tigers 0
Blacktown City 0 Sydney FC 5
Central Coast Mariners 1 NWS Spirit 3

Such a mixed bag of results.

Seems as though the A-League Clubs have dropped down all there players that are eligible and started to win games (wsw & syd).

expect this trend to last another couple of weeks until the transfer window opens sometime in June.
