NPL 2025

Lachie keevers and giving oakleigh rubbish pens🤝

Also can we ban veos from being in front of the broadcast cameras
Second one was a pen every day of the week but that first one???? Looked sketchy live but the replay, at least to me, there was nothing Ingelse could do when but try and get out of the way... Oh well.. Thats football.. Mikkola should have had a pen mid first half when he was clearly hacked at taking his shot .....

Can't beleive Djiba of all players got a brace....
I was getting some food and drink missed the first 2 goals lol.

By the 3rd I thought oh boy were in for a long night, and to be honest they probably should have another 2 or 3 in the second half. Eventually the game just died out. We were never gonna score and they were home and hosed.

Another tough game at hume on Friday but hey that's the npl.

The mikkola one confused the hell out of me and it was on the side of the lino as well.

The oakleigh player basically took a shot at his boot lol

seems as though for the rest of the season they are mixing grounds between Belmore, Kogarah and Valentine Sports.

that's gotta be disruptive for the players and fans.

Pretty disruptive for Sydney United as well. 4-0 against those guys, geez.

Went out to the palace to see Marconi finally lose, they were insipid and just plain awful.

Such a mixed bag of results.

Seems as though the A-League Clubs have dropped down all there players that are eligible and started to win games (wsw & syd).

expect this trend to last another couple of weeks until the transfer window opens sometime in June.
Nothing new from us. No one dropped, 4 weeks mandatory holiday but the usual droppers are all off contract anyway.

Yeah it's my baby. Do you mean you want to see the 5th tier and below? I'll see what I can do. It's a free host so there are limits with pages and such.
Sorry mate, didn't realise it was a wide page and that the Qld tables were there if I scrolled across. No, I don't think you need to show any tiers below what you have already. NPL, FQPL1 and FQPL2 are good, below that FQPL3 has multiple regional competitions across the state.

Hehe all good mate. Yeah it's a wide page, I wanted the same tiers going along the same rows for consistency and fairness.

The Qld regionals are fascinating. They have their own champions league format post season, but it seems a bit random with the format and matchups.

The CL doesn't really mean anything for promotion/relegation either - seems more of a way to gauge the Regional QPL3's (which don't have promotion up from them) and the lower QPL2/3 metro leagues.

The Queensland Champions League actually doesn't have anything to do with the P&R Pyramid. It is restricted to the FQPL3 Regional Leagues and FQPL1 and excludes all of the SE Queensland Leagues (Metro, Sunshine Coast, Darling Downs and South Coast).

The format isn't random. The Regional Leagues are split into 2 Conferences (Northern and Central) and the participants are the previous year's Premiers of each Regional League plus the winner of that year's Regional Championship.

For this 2025 year, the Central Conference comprises the Wide Bay and Central Coast Regions (2 teams). The Northern Conference covers the Whitsunday Coast, Northern and Far North & Gulf Regions plus the Regional Champion from the previous year (4 teams).

The Northern Conference is played as a single leg knockout over 2 Rounds. The Central Conference is played over 2 Home and Away Legs.

The 2 Conference winners then play a Regional Final and the winner of that then plays the FQPL1 Premier in the Champions League Final.

I hope the attached schematic helps make sense of all the words I've written above. Apologies for being so verbose about it but someone the other day said they would like to see more detail about the Queensland Leagues so I thought this might be a good way to try and explain some of how things work in the State.

Just BTW, I have no connection in any way to Football Queensland and I don't even live there - these days I'm very happily retired in the Philippines. But I was born and grew up in Brisbane and lived there and other parts of the State for around the first 35 years of my life (I'm 77 now). But I retain an interest in football in Brisbane and also in the way the sport has been structured to try and provide meaningful competitions and pathways within a very large State.

Disgusting news out of Canberra this morning:

Key summary:
  • Abolishing of 2nd division (Capital Premier League)
  • Expansion of National Premier League from 8 to 10 clubs
  • Removal of Riverina clubs (Yoogali SC and Wagga City Wanderers) from Capital Football
  • Introduce a representative weekend (juniors and first grade)
  • Player payment cap to be introduced into NPL Men and Women
  • NPL M & W promotion/relegation play off introduced
  • CF to engage with FA about developing our own NPL criteria.
Key takeaway from me is this one:
The review committee invited Harry Hovasapian (Tigers FC), Chris Webb (Weston Molonglo), JoSmith (Majura FC) and Matt Faulkner (Capital Football) to participate in a ‘war games’ discussion tocheck and challenge the review committees’ considerations.
Mostly that the review committee obviously has decided to follow the lead of specific clubs (not named above), to exclude the Riverina clubs. Apparently because they don't like to travel.

Understand why they'd say this for youth level (which at the moment was only Wagga anyways) and womens level - as Wagga had already pulled out - but they specifically say why it shouldn't be an issue at Men's / NPL level, and gone and rejected that anyways.

Someone just pointed this out to me that I missed as well. Considering 'travel' is cited as the main reason that Yoogali + Wagga will be removed from Capital Football competitions - this is thrown in as a recommendation:
Capital Football to explore a preseason competition with the Illawarra Premier League, where each CF NPL teams plays 4 matches against IPL clubs (2 home and 2 away).
Sorry.. this gets even more hilarious the more I read into it/discuss locally.

For reference - and you all know I'll defend referees until the end of the world - Capital Football pays NPL referees $250 per game
(Assistant Referees get half of that each on top).

Oh, and now I've read how the promotion system works - so convoluted ffs
  • Community League 1 (CL1) clubs need to declare interest for promotion prior to the start of the season. They then have until 1 March to meet NPL club licensing criteria.
  • If the CL1 Premier is not eligible for promotion (as above), there will be no automatic promotion.
  • If the CL1 Premier is not promoted, but the 2nd placed CL1 team meets NPL club licensing criteria, a single-legged promotion playoff will be scheduled after the NPL Grand Final between the 10th places NPL team and the 2nd places CL1 team (first grade only)
  • If both 1st and 2nd in CL1 do not meet NPL club licensing criteria, there will be no promotion/relegation
again - contradicts things they say earlier in the review, because they say:
Since promotion and relegation was introduced, more matches at the end of the season are relevant and have an increased level of importance at both ends of the table. This was demonstrated in 2024 where relegation was decided in the final game of the season.

essentially, no one outside the 10 clubs will meet NPL licencing club criteria ever, so there never will be any of this promotion/relegation

Very clear this is a ploy from clubs who don't want to travel, and have openly said so in the past (from memory - O'Connor Knights, Canberra Olympic) and clubs that have been relegated, and haven't been able to earn their way back in yet (Belconnen United, West Canberra Wanderers, Canberra Olympic). Based off the engagement on social media to this announcement, can probably add Brindabella Blues to either/both of those lists.

Nothing less than pissweak from Capital Football and the clubs. Booting out clubs there on merit. I wonder if there's legal recourse Yoogali specifically can take.

What's happening to the other CPL teams? Do they shuffle down to CL1?

This should rule out Canberra teams from the Championship too. Can't have your traveless cake and eat it too.

Agree with you on the travel. Piss-weak excuse to boot out clubs on merit, as you said.
Not to mention all the other bollocks.

Essentially...of the 16 clubs in NPL/CPL at the moment, the structure would be:
  • 7 of the NPL clubs to remain in NPL.
  • 1 to be removed
  • Top 3 of CPL to be promoted (or Top 4 if one of them is Wagga City)
  • 1 to be removed
  • Remaining 4 to be shuffled into a new 10 team Community League Division 1
Legal recourse - I did jokingly suggest they can appeal considering the document refers to Yoogali FC, rather than Yoogali SC (Which is a completely different club)
